Let's establish a couple of independent facts about this:

1. What he said was in fact very dumb, and not only racist but also derogatory to anyone who is not what he would call "elite".

2. The time stamp on those messages is from March 2019. I continue to not love the trend of trying to destroy famous people by digging up old messages or social media posts. What he said was just as dumb then as it is now, but he was also a 20 year old college student and 20 year old college students say and do really stupid crap. Doesn't mean he has free reign to say stuff without consequences, but this was also a private conversation. And it now seems that this person's only intent in bringing this information to light was to seemingly try to railroad this guy's career by revealing year old messages in the name of social justice. I can't say I would handle the situation the same way.

3. He will certainly have to answer to his employer and his new teammates for this, and I suppose that's up to them whether they still have a problem with him or not. But he did apologize publicly and athletes get second chances all the time, and I don't see any reason to believe he isn't worthy of one.
