There is a difference here. Paul is limited athletically but he does defend and gives maximum effort. Yes, he will also lose his man occasionally but he is aware of what is going on in front of him and hustles his butt off. I see none of that with Jones.

Nevertheless, you can’t tell me that as a freshman on an offensively-limited team that Jones doesn’t at least deserve the time that Palmquist gets. Something else is going on here.
And I agree with his efforts. BUT he's a SF that can pass the ball. Way to slow to be a pg. Look at the film don't go off of what I say

Too early to say that. It’s up to Jaden to earn his game minutes.

Others Ike Mag, Palm and Reiber do it. Why not Jaden?

There is also the theory that if Ron Harper Jr and Geo Baker didn't come back, This team would look a lot different all around from go to scoring options, the distribution of shots, etc on down the line.

Maybe Jaden thought he was going to be the guy with Cliff and Paul in 21-22 and when they came back, he struggled to take a step backwards in the process to an off the bench barely a scoring option in 2021-22 role..

Paul and Cliff would have the same roles as they do this year but the go to scorers on the team would have been Caleb, Jaden, Hyatt and Mag vying for Geo Baker and Ron Harper's go to scoring spots and the 3 starting.spots, Caleb probably getting one no matter what. Off the bench, Jalen, Oskar, Dean and Ralph. If they didn't come back, Pike probably had someone to bring in and we might be talking about a completely different team, development process and overall record.

Jones has been bad defensively, and I don’t like his body language. However, Pike owns some of this too. He apparently hasn’t done or said the right things to get Jaden to buy in. That’s his job. To be clear, I’m not absolving Jaden, but I never heard he was a head case so there’s shared blame here.

It’s possible, based on his practice habits, that Pike could have said something to Jaden like,

“Look, I don’t want you to worry about how many minutes you’re gonna get and then sulking about it, so I’m gonna sit you for some games until I see that you’re more focused in practice and in particular more locked in on defense.”

So it’s like a challenge that Jaden has to meet first, before he sees the floor again. And my guess is, once he meets that challenge, he’ll see floor time in every game thereafter.

Whether it’s Jones’s fault for not putting in the work or just not being as good as expected, or it’s the staff’s fault for nailing him to the bench (not sure why they’d do that) or not developing him quickly enough, or it’s because of Jones’s horoscope charts, it doesn’t much matter. The team needs scorers, this was supposed to be a guy who does that well, and for weeks he can’t even get on the floor for garbage time. We sure could use another scorer right now. And next year with no Geo or RHJ? Phew! What’s that gonna look like?

There is no rule that says the PG must guard the other teams PG. Magic Johnson played PG and 90% of the time let Norm Nixon or Bryon Scott cover the quicker guard on the other teams.
Your correct 👏 and with that info let's me know you know basketball. So you understand what I'm saying

At what point does Pike realize that getting an at large bid is a long shot and start allowing bench players to play through mistakes?

I don't think we are any where close, but a few more losses can change that.

You think if we are clearly out of it by the end of the season he's going to ride the starters major minutes and not use the bench? That seems unlikely
I don’t think we can afford the net result of a tank and finish with 12-14 wins - which is a national and local negative perception of this programs future, considering there is already no reason for optimism the following season. The challenge with poor recruiting is the optics now are if we fall back significantly, it’s for good, for next year, at least a short term outlook falling going forward, however you want to phrase it.

To be clear, that may even happen anyway playing the starters and that may be the more likely outcome than hitting .500, but we shouldn’t aid in that type of result.

we will never be out of it, since this team has already shown it can beat Purdue

whether the starters give up is another question

I don’t think this team is a “never be out of it” team. That’s a distinct possibility and definitely within the range or possible outcomes just going by most performance indicators.

A tough 10+ potential program defining games lay ahead.

The notion of pulling starters to develop young players is silly.

That said, given the offensive make-up of this team, if Jones is the offensive player he's been billed to be, he shouldn't be relegated to garbage time when RU is out of the NCAA's. Now, maybe the problem is something different. But then that's still a problem.

I sure hope I'm wrong, but in this new easy transfer world we live in I can't see Jaden sticking with RU next season.

My question is has anyone observed Jaden's reactions to the games while sitting on the bench? That may tell a lot about where his head is.

I've seen people say he doesn't look engaged at all which isn't a good sign
