Apparently, like Johnson and Mathis, he doesn’t want to. It would be a kick in the teeth if he plays college ball elsewhere. If you’re going to play college basketball next season just stay at Rutgers!
Myles - Grad School. Tez - unhappy.Apparently, like Johnson and Mathis, he doesn’t want to. It would be a kick in the teeth if he plays college ball elsewhere.
Just like the kick in the teeth that he got by being benched ahead of players that struggled more than he did. When you are in what you thought was going to be your last year and you have Pro asperations, being given singled out for such a long stretch of the season hurts. Despite his turnovers in those couple of games (ONE GAME IN PARTICULAR) , he was our most productive guard at both ends of the court.Apparently, like Johnson and Mathis, he doesn’t want to. Pike is definitely a player’s coach so I give him the benefit of the doubt when he actually does bench a player. Most coaches would have benched some of our players long before Pike did. I agree with you that Young was the most productive guard but he would also make some of the most head-scratching plays on the team, and usually in bunches. I just think he is a high-energy skilled guard who had trouble disciplining his own energy when it was necessary. As far a benching goes, my only complaint this year was that Geo and Mathis weren’t benched enough.Just like the kick in the teeth that he got by being benched ahead of players that struggled more than he did. I agree.... perfectly willing to accept the idea of him going to Europe or somewhere for pro ball.....this would sting and indicate he was not happy here.....Apparently, like Johnson and Mathis, he doesn’t want to. It would be a kick in the teeth if he plays college ball elsewhere.
I would add Harper to that too. He was great in the tourny, but there were too many times that he did not hustle on D during the season as well as just not contributing on O.Pike is definitely a player’s coach so I give him the benefit of the doubt when he actually does bench a player. Good point. I thought maybe he was just badly out of shape after his injury.I would add Harper to that too. He was great in the tourny, but there were too many times that he did not hustle on D during the season as well as just not contributing on O.
He did get pulled from the starting lineup. When you say he got benched that's not technically true considering he played 30.1 minutes per game which was only behind Harper at 32.0 and Baker at 31.2. The next closest guy was Mulcahey at 27.3. So him being in the top 3 of minutes per game is a better characterization of his playing time. Not whether he actually started a game or not. Maybe he didn't like how Pike utilized him or Pike's substitution patterns, but to say he was benched when he was at the top of minutes per game on this team is a stretch.
Now if you want to tell me Mathis got benched, I could buy that. He only played 21.2 minutes per game. But I think that topic has been beaten to death.
