I'm not going to write this kid off because he's young but he didn't see much time in the A&M backfield which begs to question, Why?
He was behind a 1st rd draft pick in this years draft as well as 2 5*s.. have u looked at their rb room??

this is typical Scott Frost if you ask me.. loading up on skill positions but not other positions of need.. at least we're signing healthy guys right?

kids film looks okay.. has a burst, but we've seen very little out of our run game with only Yant breaking a run for more than 29 yards.

If the quote is true "they were looking for a big-time running back right now" then that kind of tells you what they think of what we got.

Maybe the new running back coach is involved with things behind the scenes, who knows.. every year it's been load up the running back room and then we end up flushing it out a year or two later..

The kid does appear to be able to catch the ball in space, so maybe they are looking for more of those skills?

He's no Wandale, but seems to have good vision, gets up field quickly, can cut back, has a burst, but looks 'chubby'.. but doesn't have the power of Yant though.

I wonder if we would still take a HS kid? Our RB is pretty unsettled after Johnson. Yant and Stepp seem like flight risks and Ervin is coming off a serious knee injury.
I wouldn't be suprised if Yant left. Yant still has his freebie transfer if he wants. After his in game tantrum, I'm not sure Frost is counting on him next fall. Stepp I think would have to sit out if he left. This new kid is a big fast guy who Beckton recruited pretty hard out of high school. He was sitting behind NFL caliber backs at A$M.

I feel good about Gabe and Rahmir now. Blocking up front has to get better and the rest will take care of itself.

I agree that the line HAS to get better. Any of the backs we started this past year could have been capable of big games with better O line play.

I like what Ervin showed, but that was a pretty serious knee injury. No idea how or when he bounces back.

I bet they would see him as an upgrade over Yant and Stepp. Both those other guys were in and out of the dog house all last season.

If this program is ever going to win again, we need more winners on the roster.

Johnson has also had some concussion issues. Not sure how many they can have before that becomes an issue.

He's got 4 years to play and likes Beckton a lot. He was stuck behind some guys who barring injury are probably going to be playing on Sundays some day. When people start questioning a kid like this's ability, I always wonder what they would have said if we had gotten Kenneth Walker instead of Michigan State. He's a big and more than fast enough back. Playing where he did, I have no doubt that Whipple knows all about him.

Yant/Stepp won't be on the team much longer if I had to guess...
Given Yant's pouting this past season, I could see him leaving if he's not ahead of this kid on the depth chart in the spring. Stepp has a bigger problem in that he's already used his free transfer. I do think we want to carry 5 scholarship RBs. 4 is a bare minimum IMO given how often they get banged up. You could probably get by with 4 with Belt on the roster. But I do think Yant is a flight risk which would put you at 3 if we hadn't taken Jackson.

We are also having a juco RB visit...someone is gone.

Sounds like the A&M Rb coach put in a good word for him. The guy coached with Mickey and BB at LSU.

Maybe but it might be after spring ball too. IF we're going to start using a fullback, it's possible that nobody leaves. Who the hell knows but my money would be on Yant if somebody is leaving. That said, do we know if the kid from Minnesota is going to qualify? There was a reason that he didn't have more P5 offers and I would wonder if it wasn't his academic status. The kid is clearly very talented.

A$M can get kids like this every year and we were on him like flies on the picnic table in July out of high school. They'll fill his spot easily so it's no big deal to see him walk if he's unhappy. Good deal for us. I think Whipple is serious about a power run game.

Yes I've seen it, but with 3 blow out wins they had you would have thought he would have gotten more than 1 carry this past year. I still ask why he only got one carry unless he was injured. I have to trust the coaches on this one but who's the RB coach who would have a big say on this.

Guys like their top 2 want their carries or they'll take off. I think Whipple had the "big" say on this. It sounded like Whipple had watched all of our scrimmage and game film from this past year within a few days of taking the job. No doubt he watched this kid's high school video and was probably very familiar already coming out of high school. If you're going to go pro style power running attack you better have some power backs who can catch the ball and pick up a blitz. Rhamir's one weakness was pass blocking due to his size and Yant and Stepp struggled in pass pro. Ervin could pick up a blitz but who knows how he'll come back from the knee.

Was at FSU a couple of years, then went juco. Ran for over 1700 yards last year at NMMI.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Yant and Stepp gone.

We need more competition to get a RB1, but in recent years we end up with RBC (RB by committee). I don't care how many they recruit, but by the first game we must have a starting RB1 if we are ever going to get back to recruiting truly talented RBs.

I'm shocked they aren't going after LBs.. RB isn't as big of a need as LB
I’m counting 16-17 scholly LBs right now with 1-2 more joining this summer.
I don’t disagree we’d have the chance to make some upgrades amongst those, but I also think where coaches place their focus signals where they feel most comfortable as well.
Other priorities taking precedence.

No training table?
probably both!

hopefully he's Eddie Lacy 2.0 for us -- one of the all-time ate-himself-out-of-the-league guys

may we all find something we love as much as Eddie Lacy loves "china food"

Was N, now is OUT. CFB is crazy these days.
Doesn't qualify academicly. Staying at A&M for spring to get work done. No longer a part of A&M team. There is your probable answer as to his limited action at A&M. Typical guy that Held would recruit. Commits and can't come because he doesn't take care of business.

except he wasn't recruited by Held.. Held has been gone, so this is on somebody else! Way to blame someone who wasn't even involved. Geez.

he stated he was recruited heavily out of high school (when Held was here, "coaching" and "recruiting")

So Jackson enters the portal on January 7th.. SOMEONE went and offered him from the current staff. Held was certainly not here. And now that it doesn't work out, people go and blame the guy who isn't here and didn't make the offer.
