Wrong on pulverizing asphalt. It's milled up and recycled, at least in AL.
Pulverized concrete actually makes a good base when compacted at OMC.

Ah, I see, is that the new section 415-A mix design? It's not approved here yet, so I'm not familiar with that. I've only been on one interstate project where lime treated HMA mix was used and it was a headache, from the plant all the way to the rollers.

If you're up to speed on cold in-place lime mixing, PM me about it. Curious. If something works well and is cost effective, AL and MS will be the last to approve it.

I live below Florence and have to commute on 49 everyday and have for over twenty five years. The problem with 6 laning it is by the time they’re finished in ‘23 it will be outdated. Should have been done twenty five years ago. Mississippi is so poor that from start to finish it’s going to be a five year project.

How long is your commute (in minutes)?

I had a little actual knowledge of that project, but it's been a long time. I do remember there were definitely some environmental issues. And, as I recall, the original idea for the project came at at time when traffic at the airport was rising, then after 9/11, that came to an end. I think the project hung around for several years, then just died from neglect and lack of any real interest.

Yeah they were notified about 2003 about the new road and settled on a price in 2005. The deal with Inment Domain they have to give you what it would cost to buy another house in another area the same size as the house they are taking. there are negotiation in the process. The property owners do have some rights when it is the State taking property. Their house was paid for and that was the kick in the nuts to them. Also right after they agreed on price Katrina hit and housing prices went up in the Metro area. They ended up having a small mortgage. Makes my wife sick when we drive by those vacant lots.

Then what’s the 17ing solution. I gave you one and you *****. Bitches like you will ***** about anything because you get off on arguing. 17ing goat
The solution is to bite the bullet and deal with the construction. They shut down the interstates in Bham for 14 months and the world didn’t end (still ongoing). Get over it. Plan ahead.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but one of the primary reasons 49 stalled is due to mother17n utilities not getting their 17n **** out of the way.
Amen.

My company has been working on a road widening project on the coast for a couple of years. Everything (funding in place, plans approved, permits secured, etc) s finally ready to move forward. Well everything except f’n ATT - we were told a couple days ago that they needed 9 more months to move their lines. I always thought CSX was bad to deal with. ATT is much worse...

Another problem making the already maddening process of highway construction both slower and more expensive is the ever increasing safety standards. For that you can blame 3 main culprits; dumb engineering, bad/stupid drivers, and distracted drivers. Some of the new standards are absolutely ridiculous. Where does it end? I could bore y'all all day with that ****.

I'm constantly bitching; you cannot and should not engineer for stupidity. With liability concerns ever increasing, my battle is a losing one.

What are the ever increasing safety standards that were created to engineer for stupidity?

I know little about road construction and didnt realize changes were due to drivers.

Sounds like that Trans-Texas Corridor that got shelved. Environmentalist libs got it stopped, and weirdly enough they are the ones bitching about traffic.
So only liberal environmentalists complain about the traffic? No other arbitrarily created groups of society complain?

Odd.

He didn’t say they were the ONLY ones

So only liberal environmentalists complain about the traffic? No other arbitrarily created groups of society complain?

Odd.

Most with any reasonable intellect would read his remark to mean that the ones protesting before were now bitching about traffic. Obviously other people are as well. But if you read it the way most us normal folk did then you wouldn’t get to interject the same tired slant as you do in every thread.

I'll name just 2 small recent cases I know all the details on. Sorry for the length of this, but this is the tip of the iceberg

1. A late night drunk blew a 2 way stop at a 4 way county road/state highway intersection and died after going airborne due to the approach grade. Family sued; lawyer said the approach was too steep, so the state was at fault. Case was settled. All of a sudden, all state/US hwy intersections require more extensive pre-con work (design, survey, traffic studies, etc) before actual work even begins. Instead of a simple mill and resurface, now there may be extensive grade, base, leveling, extended turnouts, etc at qualifying intersections to comply with new "safety" regulations. Which, of course, is more time and lots more money.

2. Car broke down at a similar low volume, 2 way stop- 4 way intersection. Got on his damn phone to call for help and coasted into traffic, got his dumb *** T-boned but survived. State went in, widened, extended shoulders, installed approach rumble strips, installed warning lights, solar panels and illuminated stop signs. Made it an all-way stop. Local residents and businesses were PISSED. This happens more than I care to mention. Liability concerns are becoming a monster that needs to be tamed somehow.
