Saw where the reservoir is supposed to be 299 ft above sea level Sunday and if it reaches 300 the dam supposedly will release automatically a ton of water which will release ten feet of water in the floodplain.

They’ve been delaying increasing the flow through dam, but they’re supposed to increase it tonight. I don’t think there’s any expectation it will go over 300 ft & being the emergency dam into play. It’s going to be bad (it already is pretty bad) but shouldn’t be another 1979 or 1983.

A few things they are saying.

At 6:00 PM the mean elevation of the Rez reached 299 ft and that is the max they will allow so that the Authority can maintain control of the flow.

At 6:00 PM, they started increasing the spillway flow by 2000 cu. ft. Per second, from the 60,000 cu. ft. Per second it was flowing through at. They will add 2000 additional cu. ft. Per second each hour until it reaches 80,000 cu. ft. Per second. This will enhance the rise below the spillway into the city more quickly. It has been rising less than a .1 inch per hour because the Authority was holding it in the Lake to give people time to evacuate, but the time is at hand now. The slow increase has slowed down the crest that was expected by early Sunday, but should now occur Sunday afternoon to a Evening at 38 feet.

Better hope the rain on the way is splash and dash. The pattern is full, ghost rider.

The good news is, it doesn't look like we'll get much rain tonight. But more coming Tuesday. Hope that will give the river enough time to move on to the south before new rain comes.

Our 2000sqft deer camp lodge north of Ratliff Ferry on the edge of Pearl River swamp received 8” off water inside the lodge yesterday (Friday). The gauge Ratliff Ferry on the Pearl River was at 309.1. This is the second or third highest reading ever on this gauge. The gauge at 7:15pm today was 308.8 and head down. Y’all down south better get ready there’s a lot of water headed y’all’s way!!

Jackson needs a good bath
I agree Jackson needs some serious straightening out. But dude if you haven’t ever lived through a flood I don’t you would have posted that. I was in living in Jackson in the 1979 flood and lived in the NE Jackson flood area in 1983. You can’t fathom the misery of people street after street of having their homes flooded out.

Yeah. I'm lucky that this is miles away from my house. But I've got friends who are really sweating it out the last few days. The people who are going to be affected by this for the most part aren't the people who are the problem in Jackson.

What areas are affected?

Northeast Jxn off of Old Canton Rd, Lakeland Dr bear the river, the southern part of downtown from about Pascagoula St down to I-20, then areas of south Jxn near the river. JA & Prep baseball fields are lakes right now.
