College sports has always been a business
Yes, and it's been that way in the power conferences since the 90s. There is still an element of amateurism to it, but it's a money sport. Our coach makes $10 million/year before endorsements.
College d-1 sports has always been a business.Played in the seventies and we were always reminded that it was a job

In the 2 mock drafts I checked a little while ago neither even have him mentioned, undrafted.
Go to NBAdraft.net and look at early entry article. Jackson is under the " undicided column" and is projected 28-55. He is also listed in the early second round of the 2018 draft so he is getting good feed back I just think he hasn't gotten the feed back for a guaranteed to be drafted. You can get drafted second round and still get sent over seas or to the dleague

I can't imagine it's a competition issue. If you are worried about battling for playing time at Duke, going to an NBA roster and battling a bunch of pros for time is not a particularly logical alternative.

Who knows, but I would anticipate him getting feedback and returning. He will improve his stock this season in the lead up to a weaker draft.

Not really. None were expected to make the jump to the league. Maybe Bradley.

Frank, Grayson, Tatum, Giles and even Tatum were on the draft boards prior to the season starting and Frank was projected a first round.

He will get his feedback and do what's best for him. I get the issues from some on the boards but isn't the end it's the kid decision

If Jackson elects to stay in the draft he will be taken. Maybe not in the first round, but he'll be drafted.

Also, Jackson has earned the right to be somewhat 'selfish' here. It's his career. Of course he's not 'ready' for the NBA, but how many truly are ready? He might be prepared to take his shot. He shouldn't be blasted for it.

Like I said above....let's let this whole thing play out. Testing the waters is beneficial. I do think Duke and K were probably able to gather enough information from their connections to assure Frank it's a possibility. Now he's taking advantage of the process. Step away from your fandom long enough to realize that.

Probably never, but there was a pretty big overhaul after their 2005 and 2009 title teams, as well as 2012.

Listen, it's not ideal, but this is going to happen when you have the success recruiting Duke has had recently. UNC has thrown their hats into the ring on a number of OAD recruits the last six years....they've just been spurned over and over. In retrospect, it's been a benefit for them.

When is the last time except this past season they had anyone worth going?

In all Dukes short comings over the last ten years atleast they can say they avoided the NIT. Can UNC say that?

We as fans need to realize that these kids " some" could go straight out of HS.

We did loose seven. Two were seniors(couldn't stay), one was a grad transfer( didn't play for two years), one wanted to try to start fresh ( think he'll do good elsewhere), Two were gone before count down to craziness( Tatum and Giles were never staying). Frank Jackson has until June 12 to return, maybe sooner if he don't get an invite to the combine.

The only argument between Duke and UNC is that Roy plays a deeper bench then K

Be interesting to see if he was "testing the waters" if Duval was not so heavily in picture. Its a natural reaction for Duke diehards to be vocal today: just 4-5 days ago no less than 3 national media outlets were reporting FJ was returning for his senior year along with Jackson. I respect everyone's right to vent and be a bit unsettled today. Its almost May and next year's roster is still fairly unsettled....OFC

In the past they would offer benefits for additional years was what I was once told. Not sure if that is an easy thing for them to do right now.

I would like to see k go after the 25+ plus ranked recruit more. A lot of These top 15 guys and their parents/others think they are way more ready than they are. Granted there are probably a lot in the top 50 overall that think they should be one n done. Can't fault players for trying though. It is their dreams.

One "issue" now is that duke has done a lot to help make one n dones look good (their work and talent of course impacts). So If you have that thought in your mind duke is a school to want.

Hm, strange that all the Mormons are somehow not doing missions, outside of my boy Matt. How do they get around it? I thought that Frank's two years here were supposed to be his mission.

I feel bad for blasting the kid for making a business decision and I think my frusteration is more towards the process and the modern day basketball player. OAD has completely ruined the game for me and is turning kids who are 2-3-4 yr guys into OAD. Its sad to see. Miss the Christian, Grant, Shane, Williams, Reddick, Singler days.

For as much as it sickens me to say it, I envy the way UNC has done things with their program. Developing, not really playing the OAD game.

It's the OAD world as someone mentioned. This will be the story year in and year out until Duke gets away from OADs I am still surprised GA didn't leave after 2 yrs. I honestly believe that if you recruit MCDonalds AA you are going to face years like this year with regularity. No need to get mad and call kids names and say they are ignorant. Everyone is ecstatic when they commit and cuss them when they leave even when they tell you what their agenda is.

They have recruited the same players as Duke. If it wasn't for the hearing UNC would get some. They are recruiting Knox and he's OAD in his eyes. I think one thing ol Roy can help is not going through the whole Reggie Bullock situation. When your not getting the best feed back and the coach says your not ready and yet you still go and wash out the league

Kind of disappointed in some of the remarks about Jackson, and his testing the waters. Come on folks, he is a young man that has a dream of playing in the NBA, so why not give it a shot. He cared enough to leave his options open, so that should count for something. I want him to return to Duke, and will be disappointed if he doesn't, but it is his choice, and he will have to live with it.
I really don't believe he is one to "run" from competition, so Duval coming here is not going to influence his decision to return. Also, if he is projected as a PG in the NBA, you can rest assured that "K" will see that he gets time playing there. Duval will have to rest sometime, and Frank can play the point.
Let's try to put our wants and needs aside, and just wish him the best in whatever decision he makes.
Go Duke!

The money in college basketball exploded in the mid nineties. Coach K has said several times that it was a small market when he arrived in 1982 and that the media dollars changed the game in the 90s. Curious Topps, which sport did you play? I'd like to hear more about your experience.

You are spot on. They do a great job of playing their bench so it is not shock if a guy does leave. The next man up has some experience and is ready to play.

How is he spot on? UNC plays the OAD game, they just lose nearly every time in the last 5 years or so....
I see what you're saying SoCal. I agree with duhondukie on the bench part though. Frank and Grayson are the only 2 guys with any college experience to amount to anything, and there's a chance we could only have 1. Duke has a bunch of unproven college players. That's what has some fans concerned

In the last 2 years, no SG or Combo Guard has been drafted that was under 6'4".. in 2014, three SG or Combo Guards at 6'3" or under were drafted (in the 2nd round), and all 3 of them are now playing overseas.

The only undersized SG's that seem to have much NBA success, are guys that are lottery picks - CJ McCollum, Eric Gordon, Dwayne Wade, A.I., etc.

Yeah but no one says that 2 years ago from Duke...fans were too busy ripping their inability to recruit, develop, coach...etc.

We all live in the moment too much...this thread often ripping Frank...is a perfect example.

UNC won...had 2 very good teams...the tides will change as they always do

He should do this. Wise thing.

At the same time, he is not ready to go pro. Hopefully, he gets his jock handed to him, and that fires him up to work extra hard over the summer and he comes in ready to play.

I will say that if he thinks he has to be a PG in college to make it in the NBA that's a mistake. He has to be able to handle the ball and to shoot. There are plenty of teams in the NBA (Portland, Toronto) with 2 guards who can score and play either spot.

His challenge is he's not a consistent outside shooter - yet. He has to get his 3 point range and shot in gear.

And, I don't think it's just Duval he has to be worried about. He could play alongside Duval no problem and still get plenty of shooting and ball handling in. But, the problem is, if he plays the 2 he is in competition with both Grayson and Trent, Jr. Who is a top notch talent. People are sleeping on Trent if they think it's a done deal that Frank would start next year. Obviously, Duke can go 3 guards a lot (and probably will unless they land several big men here soon); but that's still a 3 guard lineup with 4 players vying for time and there will be games when they will need a more traditional lineup. At the same time, there will likely be times Duke will go with 4 guards and a center - one of K's favorite lineups.

But, he could still excel even if he's only getting 20 mpg. And, he could also just decide to stay 3 and be really good his Jr. year.

The thing is, it's likely Trent Jr, Duval, and certainly Grayson, will all be gone. That opens up the door for Frank in year 3. And, if he works hard, he could be a great player by then and go after year 3.

Do you really think Knox is seriously looking at Mizzo because he'll be back for his sophomore season? He can go to the heels kid is still leaving after one season!

As fans we just need to realize for these kids it's about a dream.

Also not one person could say if they had the chance to make millions or hundreds of thousands at the age of 18-20 they wouldn't jump on it.

The same thing happened in the middle of the year when Duke lost to Nc St. This board has too many who throw temper tantrums when their perceived "toys" get taken away from them.
