He went where he was paid the most...UK offered him his junior year like most of the other top schools.
Kentucky didn’t offer him a scholarship. Now the payment part is say you’re spot on with that.

According to his recruiting profiles I’ve found, when he committed to Auburn he didn’t have an offer from our program, Duke didn’t offer, and UNC didn’t offer till a few months before he committed. Every article I’ve looked at about his commitment our program isn’t mentioned either. I did find that Joel Justice did scout his games and visited him in 2019. Could be possible that something was going on with his recruitment that we don’t know about though.

Article currently on KSR says he never got offered as well.

Thank you. I was wondering if we even recruited him. He could have took Keion’s place & could have made us legit title contenders.

Was it one of those situations where those schools didn't offer because they knew he was already in the bag because someone gave him the bag?

Sure missed on him! How I don’t know. Dude is 6 10 and 2 minutes of watching should have got him an offer.

However, if UK was his favorite why didn’t he or his coaches let the UK staff know early on?

He stated in the interview that he decided based on the school that had the longest relationship and believed in him, not just jumping on the bandwagon when he became highly ranked.

Can someone who was paying attention about this time 2 years ago remind me of how the Jabari and Paolo recruitments went down. I wasn't paying real close attention and vaguely remember coming in late on Jabari and for some reason taking our foot off the pedal on Paolo, after maybe it was rumored he gave a silent committment? Cal thought he was soft or not enough motor?
Did the two recruitments work against each other? Can you imagine having either of those at the 4 spot last year?!

a consistent and persistent issue with the previous staff. Looking more and more like Chin and Antigua are righting the ship in that regard and we are poised for a monumental class like we haven’t had in a long time
something that many on this forum have complained about over & over
just too many recruits saying that UK was too late in making an offer for it not to be true
yet some still claim that ccc can do & never has done any wrong

It definitely says something if UK, Duke, and UNC didn’t offer him (at least not h til very late for UNC). Maybe UK wasn’t quite the “dream school.” He wanted his bag and got it. Good for him.

I think it’s possible that both are true. He wanted to stay loyal to those that were early and the other big schools knew he was already going to Auburn.

It’s definitely a miss for the staff, but if they offer every kid who may blow up and be a top recruit, people would be upset with that too.

He's gonna be a an OK pro. Never an all star. How many pros Pearl putting in the league?

No way I would have wasted a top 5 pick on him. But the NBA doesn't "see" what they are looking at. The next Jabari Parker went number 1. WTF? Do a mock redraft in 3 years and neither Banchero nor Smith will be top 5 picks.

I think we went after Banchero hard and he went dukes way. Don’t think the old assistants went after Smith hard he signed with Auburn early. I remember hearing folks saying we missed on a good one in him.

These are two very talented players. If they stay healthy I think both can very well be All-Stars. Who do you see being a lot better than them in the draft. I think Chet will fall in a redraft if he doesn’t put some meat on his bones.

I think we had some terrible assistant coaches at that time and this recruitment is an example of that. Justice was the one that scouted the kid and I wouldnt be surprised if he had something to do with this recruitment not working out.

Geez how many more NCAAT titles could UK have won if all these recruits who said UK was their "dream school" had actually signed on.

BLM Brooks has a good ring to it. I’m gonna steal that when we’re discussing UK basketball with the homies.
