Have come to this board for years. but the last 5 years have found myself not as interested after years of medicority. Our fanbase interest in football exploded the last 3 years.

it appears kentucky, a rival, another basketball first school is now here. Enjoying Saturday’s in the fall without a worry in the world of what the first bball practices looked like.

For years football was just a placeholder to hold us over til midnight madness/first week of november. It appears you all made a splash hire and are reaping the rewards and im happy as hell you all are experiencing it too. So I just gotta ask. How’s it feel boys to be enjoying some good football for once!?

Don't be a jerk. Poster came in here in good faith to give props to our football program. Don't make us look like sour fans.
🙄 All Hoosiers huff farts.

Screw this faux "brotherly traditional basketball school now good at football" camaraderie this guy's offering. Never trust a Hoosier. They are subhuman bottomfeeders.

Seems like you have a soft spot for them. I'm onto you, KYAnywhereEverywhere. 🤨🧐🤨🧐

When you live in southern indiana and your average friend ranges from IU to UL to UK you dont take it that serious. When you are the losingiest program in college football history and you get to enjoy 3 years you kinda wish that for your friends and peers. Especially knowing we are non traditional blue bloods and deserve it. I was iffy about stein but after the midway point in the season im sold and hope you continue to invest. In this new era of sports football comes first snd paves the way for an entire athletic department.

IU doesnt play UK in football and hasnt in 20 years. I only came over to celebrate and say kudos to this position youre in. You may not be an underdog again this season. Win 4 of 5 and you get to experience the CFP. I am whole heartedly rooting for that. As an FU to the football blue bloods and schools who have years kept anyone else out of the conversation.

You’re proving you dont need a 50 million dollar pay roll or 90k seat stadium to make noise. As an indiana fan i can relate.

Im not rooting for you guys to win a national championship. But if it comes down to ND and UK to make the playoff I know who I want there. I just want your fanbase to experience some true success, cause I know the fball first OGs of your fanbase is beyond deserving of it. Im a football first fan and Dont care to hear Paul Finebaum go on about how a 9-3 Bama team deserves to raise a banner for having no names on their jerseys.

Just invest in your program, I believe you have a winner there. Change the basketball school mantra (thats all you will be) and continue to knock off blue bloods in fball and enjoy Ocotber Saturdays.

You are right about football being the big mover and shaker in college sports. That is why I am sometimes amazed by the attitudes of certain Kentucky fans who want our football program to stay down because they feel a good football program would somehow be a threat to our basketball tradition. It makes no sense! If we can consistently become good at football, that should only serve to elevate our basketball program by the infusion of money football success will flow into UK athletics. Football is KING in college sports. Outside of a handful of state like Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Connecticut and Kansas, college basketball is mostly an afterthought. If you want your program to be relevant on the national stage, you have to do it by being competitive in football.

A lot of young fans probably don’t realize UK and IU played every season all through the 80s and 90s. There is a rivalry there:

I'm glad Indiana was able to raise the bar as a prior cellar dweller. For years, most UK fans have told themselves that competing for an sec championship/playoff birth was simply not achievable here. Watching IU transform their football program these last 3 years have proved otherwise. Thank you all for that.

Kentucky vs Indiana for the championship....
I think that would be awesome. It is a nutty coincidence how UK and IU …once stereotyped as the quintessential “all basketball no football” schools …have turned football crazy and basketball apathetic at the same time.

And UCLA will also be joining the Top 10. So with UK/IU, that accounts for 24 basketball championships in only 3 schools now atop the football standings. Meanwhile, quintessential football schools like Alabama have been having unprecedented basketball success in recent years.

So maybe there’s just no such thing as “football schools” and “basketball schools” in this new era. Everybody is a bit of both.
