If i had to pick between Ash or schiano I'd take schiano. that being said he's not coming here he's moved on and we should also. Give me Charlie Strong who had some success at Louisville
And killed Texas and was nothing without Teddy. God no.

I’m in the Schiano camp (and was back when ash was hired) but I’ll throw out another name — Butch Jones. He been a HC, Won everywhere he went including TN, and can recruit NJ. He was making $4M per year at TN
it was funny.. its not youEither that joke fell flat or many have lost their sense of humor.
Ego tells me it's the later.
I'm one of those people who didn't want Schiano back. While I admired the job he did building the program, I also thought that after 2006 he couldn't get past his plateau of 7 regular season wins built on a weak OOC schedule and weak conference opponents.
While I admired the building job Schiano did, I thought Rutgers needed someone to get us to the next level. Unfortunately, today Rutgers doesn't need someone to get us to the next level. We need someone to repeat the building job Schiano did. And obviously Schiano has shown the ability to do it.
But I'm still concerned that if we bring back Schiano, and he replicates the building job but is still unable to get us to the next level, are we then stuck with him.
He wanted the Tennessee job.Why would he want to return? He was giving the opportunity but declined the position. He is comfortable at OSU .He doesn't want to rebuild a program again.
It is funny that you say that, but the biggest reason I liked Schiano was he wasn't afraid to go after the" big boys". From day one he would say " we're here to win championships"I've been very outspoken in the past about not bringing Schiano back, but right now, we could use him. We aren't bringing him back to compete with Ohio State and Michigan. We're bringing him back so that we can beat the Kansas and the Buffalos. We may never be fully competitive against the super elite programs in our division, but we have to at least be able to beat the teams that we're supposed to beat. Less than that from a B1G program in a football talent-rich state like New Jersey is not acceptable. We have to stop the bleeding and return to respectability. Schiano is the most surefire choice we have for that.
Pretty consistent at 70% for Schiano. Never seen the board this united. Sample size right now is 245. Not a scientific poll, but I would submit that this shows substantial support for Schiano among ardent Rutgers football fans. So admin. if you're worried about support among the fanbase for bringing Greg back, this is something to think about. I wonder how many posters/readers on this board are season ticket holders.
Cue the stat wonks now to argue that this poll is meaningless.
9 to 2 on this front. So bring back Schiano. that's another $4200. Sh*t this move would pay itself off fast. Too bad the Administration doesn't see it this way.My group of 10 is down to 6 max without a coaching change. So there’s $1500 they can put towards the buyout.
No doubt GS brings the team juice and respectability.
However, just to play devil's advocate, would we be OK if results for OSU/UM/PSU were similar to VILLE/PITT/WVU back in the day..?
Yes, his recruiting would go up, but the caliber of opponent should also be taken into consideration.
[Edit]: I see Schiano's effect as similar to Jim Harbaugh's on Michigan.
This. I'd take knocking off #2 OSU in front of a nationwide audience on a Thursday night as well.Schiano won 5 of the last 7 games against Pitt...if we win 5 of 7 games against the Cult this board will demand he have a lifetime contract lol
Here is some validation for your poll:Pretty consistent at 70% for Schiano. Never seen the board this united. Sample size right now is 245. So he doesn't recruit at OSU?Second I doubt he would have the success many think he would even if he did come back. This is a different student athlete being recruited than in 2010. Social Media is everything these days and I believe Rutgers could benefit from a coach who is active and witty on Social Media.
Almost exactly the same here. Here is some validation for your poll:
Sure, there are other coaches out there that could get the job done. But of the ones we could land, Schiano's probably the one we could depend on most to stabilize the situation. As I mentioned in another thread, my ideal scenario would be for Schiano to come here for about four years, fix the issues, and then he moves on to a more desirable job and RU looks for someone who can take us to another level. But you've got to walk before you run, and right now, it's like we're scraping our knees on pavement.I think people are too enveloped in the RU bubble and don't see what goes on outside of it.
You think there aren't other coaches out there who could beat the Kansas and Buffalos on the schedule. Everyone thinks we're in this deep dark blackhole of oblivion. I understand the despair but the kind of things we're in now isn't all that uncommon.
I love going after the big boys, too, but as I said, we've got to be able to walk first. It is funny that you say that, but the biggest reason I liked Schiano was he wasn't afraid to go after the" big boys". From day one he would say " we're here to win championships"
You have to love that, as a struggling program you need that.Thats something President Barchi dosent get. When he makes a comment like "we'll never compete with OSU." Maybe we won't, but what you say is we're doing everything we can to compete with OSU.
At this point I would kill for mediocrity.Yes I want mediocrity yet again but of course in the B1G will we even be that good with him?
Average out 43 years of watching this team and that really is all we have been with a good year here and there. But even with Schiano we had up and down years. Look I am not saying the guy didn’t head us in the right direction I just think we need something more than just the same old thing. We need a proven head coach who is winning at all the stops he has been at. Like Schiano said the answer isn’t going backwards but going forward. He was good for that time we need something more.At this point I would kill for mediocrity.Yes I want mediocrity yet again but of course in the B1G will we even be that good with him?
and your answer is exactly what ?????? let me guess... we need to rebuild 3-4 years... right ? Flood did less damage with all his controversy and went to bowl game....Yep lets return to a guy who couldn't win the Big Least, couldn't beat West Virginia or Miami, and was by far not a game day coach. Not to mention that no other school will give him a HC job with the " what did he know about the Penn State disaster", not even the school he is currently working for. I will say it again its time to move on and hire a proven HC that isn't Greg Schiano. He couldn't win a lower conference (0 titles) what makes you think he can win in this league?
I would view hiring Schiano back as giving up on the program. Too many people stuck in the past in this thread. Too many people willing to settle.
Is it not possible to hire an actual, proven, winning head coach to RU?
I don't think either of them are what we need. I think we need an even bigger name that's even more of a proven winner.Likely not. Only other ones I can think of are Bielema and Charlie Strong and don't know they would come here.
