We have the facilities and a lot of fans eager for a reversal of fortune.
and more money as well. However, I tend to think the challenge of competing in one of the very best conferences in the NCAA is very alluring to competitive people

Not too excited on the hire. Think 2 years as hc is not enough time to prove he is capable. I guess will find it out like all the other men's programs. Wait and see. In the church we elect deacons and elders that are not young and have proven themselves before installin then in office.
Scnhall was not my first choice , however I hope he does very well and can restore the program to respectability again after such a long dry spell

I followed as much as reading this board.

I saw initial excitement, then questioning the hire.

To be honest, was there a homerun hire (pun intended) out there?
we will never know if there was a better option for us out there, this is a statement hire for Donati as well as being very important for the program. While this was not my first choice, I sincerely hope he meets the expectations of our fans. It is such a shame to see a once prestigious program decline to where it is. Welcome Coach Schnall and go Gamecocks!

Not that I know of...to answer the latter question. But I don't follow college baseball much at all, aside from keeping up with our record.

Just took the time to look Schnall up. From all the chatter surrounding him, I was surprised to see he only has 2 years of head coach experience. I'd feel better if he had strung together some successful seasons.

It raises the question if no experienced major program coaches wanted the job? Or did we just make a Tanner-esque lazy hire? Or was he the top guy we wanted all along? I would

Ole Miss. His fascination with them is well known.
well that's just plain strange. I will say this, Schnall's market value was lower this season due to the dramatic drop off and being bounced so quickly in post season. If Coastal had a similar season next year as this one, his market value would have declined even further. I believe this was a very savy career move by Schnall, one that has dramatically altered the financial situation for his family for a generation.

Wasn't aware of that. I don't see Bianco ever leaving Ole Miss (though he's a former LSU player) until retirement so probably another 5-10 years considering he's in his late 50s. Maybe longer though depending on how long he wants to coach. Like Van Horn at Arkansas.

I'm good with the hire. I'm safely assuming we outbid Coastal. He doesn't have a lot of years as head coach but was associate head coach at Coastal for many years so knows the ropes. His age doesn't bother me either. He's same age as Monte Lee and Shane Beamer. 49 ain't geriatric. Of course, I'll be 49 this year so I'm a little biased too.
