We all here love college hoops. It is religion to many. But:
Bill Self just signed a lifetime contract which is bullet proof with respect to previous conduct

NIL will succeed 7-2 in the Supremes and Phil Knight will be able to sign a great point guard for a $100000 salary to rep Nike and to induce him to go to Oregon

On many teams,8-10 players are in the portal.

The apocalypse?

Part of me wonders if the NIL actually levels the playing field for the example you mentioned. The usual suspects were already paying players or setting up family members in back door/shady ways. Maybe this brings everything above the table?

Well, it wouldn't be so, if there weren't: 1) lotsa $ to be made for the program; and 2) a motivated booster-fan base willing to invest.

As if Oregon has not or is not paying certain players? While related to NIL, the real issue is the NCAA (or whatever organization in the future provides governance over college athletics) having the ability and willingness to enforce its own regulations by remedying violations. Until such time as that occurs, there's always going to be a Coach Wade making strong *** offers to recruits without any consequences. What we have today is an unfair and uncompetitive landscape, with some exceptions (i.e. Gonzaga) and that's not going to change until a governing organization does its job.

Will require unheard of transparency from otherwise private citizens...

For NIL, It allows Phil knight to do it and get a tax deduction as an expense. Before if knight wanted to give it to players it had to be cash under the table.

It only levels the playing field if your school has big boosters willing to shell out the dough. I’m not sure we have that.

I think we do when the teams are successful. The blue bloods have it no matter their results on the field/court.

The NCAA will not willingly allow parties to openly influence recruits with endorsement dollars. Thus, even though the rules will change to allow NIL compensation, the recruiting rules might offer stricter constraints on permissible recruiting methods.

However, the NCAA is unable to enforce today's rules, thus, recruits will most likely continue to get paid under the table - By agreeing to NIL compensation upon arriving on campus as students.
