I know this topic has moved two pages past this, but let's not rewrite history here (and really, it goes to show how good the media is at smearing us).

Julie said NJ.com/Star Ledger lives off of bad stories about Rutgers and that by not giving them any bad stories to write about that the paper would die.

(Not) Shockingly, this was twisted into her saying she wished the paper would die just for funsies.
If they're not writing headlines that are getting our attention, they're not selling ads – and they die," Hermann told the Media Ethics and Law class. "And the Ledger almost died in June, right?"

"They might die again next month," a student said.

"That would be great," she replied. "I'm going to do all I can to not give them a headline to keep them alive."

So it’s no longer going down. Or it never was

The prediction (it's more than a prediction, really) still stands.

Gary is in.

Pat is out.

Maybe not HOLYSHITTODAYRIGHTNOW because that's only how things work in BacWorld, but that is the end state.

So the only one claiming the conspiracy theory is the OP

It's not a conspiracy theory.

It's a plan.

The only one using the word "conspiracy" is you because, as we all know quite well, anything you don't comprehend has to be a conspiracy of some sort. Because you're...

Say it with me, now...

"Simple".

Bless your heart.

Hobbs will not preside over a Schiano tenure. As Geddy Lee famously sings, "It doesn't fit the plan - No!"

I could definitely see that, since I'd been hearing for awhile, as I said previously, that Hobbs was on thin ice. I just don't have any personal corroboration of Hobbs being out over the last few days though, but I'll admit, I've been preoccupied and haven't really been asking around. Have always thought Greg had a high probability of being rehired. Let's just get it done fast, if that's what we're doing.

somewhat convenient that you didn't quote her saying-- that it would be great if they (ledger) died ???? sounds like she was hoping they died--let's stop sugar coating

This is still pretty vague, since like everyone, Hobbs will be gone eventually. If it is three years from now, does that still mean this whole thing was correct? If it is by Thanksgiving, as the OP predicts, I'll be more inclined to believe it was a takedown. But the "pre-emptive strike" by Hobbs still seems a little far fetched, and I'm not sure there will really be any way to confirm this is or is not true.

Barchi's public statement runs contrary to the "Hobbs is out" theory. Yes, he could be out if the investigation yields inappropriate conduct, but absent that I don't know how to rationalize Barchi's support statement and Hobbs being fired. I guess he could say he's being fired having nothing to do with the softball incident, but it just looks pretty dumb. Then again, that's never stopped RU before.

Separately, if it's so well known that Hobbs is being fired, then Hobbs must know this so he would really need to be fired before the new coach is hired. Otherwise, the optics would be horrible, i.e., Hobbs would introduce Shiano as the new coach and talk about B1G championships etc and then get whacked?

Yes, why give Hobbs vote of confidence if this is happening? Makes no sense OP.

It's not well known he's being fired --it's in the minds of posters like playing telephone

I think it's far more convenient for you to ignore this "If they're not writing headlines that are getting our attention, they're not selling ads – and they die" and "I'm going to do all I can to not give them a headline to keep them alive".

That's the context, the context you yourself gave. How are you ignoring the very quotes you provided?

Should we take bets on GS' comments in his upcoming presser about using any of the following:

- It's a process
- In the mix
- Rock solid foundation
- Dinged
- Someday our best will be enough to beat the best

That he walks in to "Who Says You Can't Go Home?"
Could even make it a drinking game, lol...

Damn people, give it up with the Julie arguments.

She wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and I don't like how she handled the EL situation. But she did promote the women's soccer coach we have now and wanted Flood gone. In terms of instinct on hires I would give her the lead over Pernetti and maybe Hobbs depending on how football shapes out.

But you are right, she is gone, and has nothing to do with the current mess.

Ah yes, saying that the press twisted comments to suit their needs when the context made it obvious what was being said is me loving Julie.

Let's make sure we stand up for journalism driven by clicks because it was convenient for our fans to side with them against Julie.

Gotta agree.. we actually see board consensus with the media in saying why hasn't Schiano been hired yet? It is not a conspiracy.. just simple agreement.

We gave Schiano a lot of influence and control last time and he did good with it. Sure it pissed some people off.. I myself was suspicious when he fired the radio team. But even on that decision what he brought in was better. I disliked switching the home team side.. and still do.. made no sense.. especially for a coach that doesn't wear hats or a visor or shades.. that afternoon sun in your face is brutal for seeing things on the field. But obviously GS thought having our sidelines on TV more would be best for us in the long run. And with more noon games and maybe some night games on occasion.. afternoon sun is less of an issue.

No conspiracy needed. Just simple logic.

Long before Julie was hired ( she's gone now !!!!)
I bet a lot of Rutgers football fans felt it would be great if that rag shut down and expressed that feeling.
I know I did , especially during the time the Ledger was putting out hit pieces against the RU FB program that were just a bunch of exaggerations and misinformation that Rutgers fans had to take out an ad in that rag to set the record straight.
Nothing wrong Hermann showing disdain for that enemy of the truth.
You can dislike her all you want, but I liked her saying that.
Here's an article about it:
Hermann: ‘Great’ if newspaper dies
https://www.courier-journal.com/sto...7/julie-hermann-great-newspaper-dies/7418295/

Here’s what was said about another ex RU AD’s actions concerning the star liar

Tim Pernetti should received a Presidential Medal of Freedom for blowing his nose with a copy of the Ledger at the Papajohns.com Bowl pep rally.

I am not one to buy conspiracy theories but the timeline here could go like this:

Dec 18: Hobbs refused to fire Ash despite donors putting up
Sept 19: Hobbs gets word donors are militating behind GS
Late Sept 19: Hobbs strikes first, fires Ash
Oct 19: Donor push to hire GS not working
Late Oct 19: Donors put out softball story

I would be curious if 4Real is backing the Monday announcement other posters are suggesting.

I still find it strange that so many here know specifics down to timing of announcement but local media hasn’t said anything. You’d think at the latest by some time this weekend if Monday is the day.

Just look at USC on the verge of hiring Cincy’s AD....news out across the media this morning for an announcement as soon as Monday. That makes sense while so many board members here seem to know a lot but nothing has gotten to the local media or even college football media. Seems strange.

Exactly my point.... no one knew that how does everyone know this... and even more specifically how does everyone know so many details and not the media. Not just the firing but the hiring too came out of nowhere and not on anyone’s radar until just before and suddenly now everyone knows so many details. Guess we’ll find out in a few days.

Do you think Hobbs was going to blurt out to Sarge that the Schiano hiring was imminent between calling them f'ing scum? :Sly:

Seriously, however, if it is Greg, he has been radio silent and not visible other than being at the NJ Hall of Fame event. And he was very classy in saying that the night was Jerry Izenberg's, and would not talk about himself. The Ash hire came from out of nowhere. Not surprising that there are no leaks.

Hobbs office has generally shown to be leak-resistant. Outside of Hobbs influence? Not so much.

Not from Hobbs himself but from whatever other sources they may have.

our radio team could use a little improvement. While I love the fact 2 of them are alums, if you ever listened to any other college radio team we sound like the Jerky Boyz
