The funny thing is this is normal behavior for Kentucky fans in coal country. I absolutely love it’s getting national attention. That’s what the state of Kentucky is all about. I grew up in coal country in western Kentucky and spent plenty of time underground myself. That guy is one of thousands of guys that put themselves through hell to support their families. Love it.

It's a great story. Having Blue-White in East Tennessee, raising money for the flood victims, and then this story was the kicker, so to speak. It's clear Calipari really cares about people and teaches his players to not be pampered brats but to be concerned for their fellow man and be willing to give back. And he's not just talking the talk but he's walking it as well, as shown by this great story. He's setting the example for his players and for the rest of us. That's not why he's a hall of fame coach, but it's a big reason I personally haven't been ready to throw in the towel on him. I know some think it's an act. I think it's genuine. And it's also great PR for the program and the team. It checks multiple boxes.

I think a lot of good has been done, but we really go too far. Every coach we’ve ever had has gone the extra mile for Kentucky. That includes Tubby Smith, but for some reason (not gonna insinuate too much here), Calipari’s gestures become widely known. Which honestly I don’t care as long as it gets done. But Joe Hall made it his life’s work to help Kentuckians, he just didn’t talk about it. I think you know what I mean without me having to actually go down that road rev.

It’s a great story and very sad. But if you won’t throw the towel in on guys who lose because they help, hell we might as well just save money and hire someone who sathey’ll make that their mission as the UK coach. That could put at least 5 million back into research centers on campus.

And I’m not being a smart *** at all so please don’t take it that way. That’s a serious comment. His job is to win basketball games and not lose our position.

That’s the last I’ll comment on it because it really is good that it’s making rounds. Regardless of why.

I'm deleting the political stuff here folks. That headlines appears for 1 second at the beginning of the clip. This thread is not about politics. Take it to the Paddock.

"ILL isn't running for office either!" (As far as I know.)

Nope, and I hate politics because of what it does to people who could otherwise be friends, like UK basketball fans. We unite around our love for the Cats. But politics always divides people, and the polarization of politics today is worse than ever. I deal with it when I must. I'm a very conservative guy but I'm not gonna let politics rule me or my relationships.

Are you suggesting Cal does this so people pat him on the back? If so...

Meh...don't buy it. Also, cannot speak to Joe B or Rupp but no coach in my lifetime not just at UK has ever been as charitable as John Calipari. The guy is constantly giving back.

You realize his work doesn't fall on deaf ears too. Does he have an agenda? I'm sure part of letting it be known is to 1) Drive awareness 2) Promote participation 3) Promote the program. I highly doubt there is any self promotion in what he does. The amount of time devoted to it indicates to me that it is a passion of his.

Anyhow, agree to disagree on your take.

Regarding throwing in the towel...I never have simply because I didn't see a chance in France that he'd go out a loser and still don't think he will.

I have very strong feelings about most things but friend 's I have associated with for years and I don't go there. We enjoy each other's company. We know each other's leanings but we put that last in our relationship behind God, ourselves, family, other's, and about everything else. Of course we are like-minded in family areas and personal areas. Take care...

No coach has done more than Joe Hall for the poeple of Kentucky. He just didn’t talk about it and didn’t want recognition.

How many times did Calipari say he went to mass this morning? I lost count at 15.

Calipari, for whatever reason, does well in this area. I don’t care why he does it as long as he does, but his first job is still to win and good work doesn’t replace that at a program like this. You’ve got to win.

Yes I believe Calipari wants people to know what he’s doing. Yes I believe he thinks it’s good business. I also think he cares, just not as much as a guy who really gets it like Hall.

Just my take.

My grandfather my dad and my uncles and many of my cousins were coal miners in Pike and Floyd County. The coal mining culture is unique. This is beautiful story.

I wouldn't be opposed to UK playing one exhibition game each year somewhere in KY other than Rupp Arena. One year could be in Western KY, the next in Eastern KY. Maybe include one in Northern KY as well. All those games would be sellouts, which is most likely not going to happen in Rupp. Adding a charitable element to the game would also be nice.
Would be a great way to reconnect with fans in rural areas that can't make it to Lexington either because of distance, time or cost.

I think think this story shows Cal/UK doing what we’ve missed over the past 5(ish) years. He had lost touch of what this program actually means to this fan base. This isn’t a big city program. Hardworking people scratch and claw to make it work so they can see their beloved Wildcats play. It’s what makes us the best program in the country. I hope this brings that back into perspective.

None as much as coach Cal. Do you think Billy G did as much as Cal for the community. Man you have real problems. Definitely shows your lack of common sense and your hate for Cal. Enjoy.

Cal had to do something to get the heat off his poor coaching tendencies I guess.
Cool story though!
