Guys, Coach K isn’t going to be around forever. I think it’s time we discussed who everyone thinks will/should take over when K decides to retire.

I second that vote lol. I can see the presser now. Our guys shoes were dirty, which led to us being slow to slide our feet, and no more bubble gum since we all of a sudden stop talking on defense.

I would say 99 percent chance it’s someone within the Duke family. One percent chance Brad Stevens.
Whoever gets it first had the toughest follow up job maybe in the history of college basketball. Gene Bartow followed Wooden nicely but some say the pressure caused him to leave to try to rebuild a team (UAB). It won’t be easy.
I personally would like to see Scheyer step in. If he took the reigns successfully, he’s young enough to where he could be there for many, many years.
However that might be too tough a follow up for such a young coach. An NBA mind like Snyder would be nice. You could still attract recruits pretty readily with him.
Capel would also be a good choice. Those would be the top 3 on my wishlist.

Not Barnes. That guys had talent multiple times and can't win with it.
Good thread. I don't know why we keep trying to avoid discussing this. Coach K will not be at Duke forever. I can think of abouthe 20 candidates but I'm not gonna bore this board with my thoughts.. If it's not Brad Steven's then it's coming from the Duke family. That's the only hint I'm gonna give. OFC

I agree that it’s extremely, extremely unlikely. That said, there have been whispers from those in the know who say there’s two ‘dream’ jobs which Stevens would potentially consider. One is Duke. The other is eight miles away.
I’m hoping Coach K’s replacement is currently working on their 6th grade algebra homework. They can take over when they turn 30.
