I wonder if there will be religious exemptions or will BYU and other schools predominately out west suffer as a result of said rule, should it go into effect?

Agree, but my impression is that the agents and the attorneys will try to litigate any rational proposal to solve or improve the flaws that are ruining college sports.
Yeah, that will happen. All I can say is that “this is the way it’s always worked” is not known to be a viable legal strategy. I’m sure that sooner or later someone will sue to be allowed to play college sports for more than five years. I’m not a lawyer but I know of nothing that could prevent this from happening if the college wants it to happen.
