...coming to WVU.

As a matter of fact, Allen is said to have made Duke and Michigan his final two destination picks.

The highly sought after high school quarterback from the bluegrass of Kentucky (Lexington Catholic) has academic priorities, possibly being steered by a mother who is said to be hell bent on orchestrating his landing spot.

Oh, where is Kentucky in this process?

The backdrop to this story is: Bill Allen, Beau's father, was a gun-slinging quarterback while in high school at Morgan County (Ky.) Running from a shotgun offense in the early 1980s, Bill Allen directed an offense that featured four receivers, two on each side, winding up with 6,440 passing yards and 42 TD tosses during his schoolboy career.

After entertaining several high profile college offers, including one from Duke, Bill Allen chose to play for Kentucky, fulfilling a boyhood dream. Despite reservations voiced by his father, Bill Allen joined forces with then UK coach Jerry Claiborne. Allen in five years at UK wound up throwing 13 total passes, with seven completions. He never started a single game. Claiborne was a run-oriented coach. Allen's father had forewarned his son of this fact.

So, according to sources, Kentucky is out of the picture, too. Current UK coach Mark Stoops has publicly stated that the Wildcats footprint on offense is the running game. Maybe Daddy Allen has had a chat with Beau. Maybe it went along the lines of his own father's concerns. Maybe.

But it appears the trump card is Momma Allen, whose career involves academia. UK not good enough? Seems that way. WVU not good enough. Seems that way.

A UK education didn't hurt Bill Allen one bit. He sits as the president of the Bank of the Bluegrass in Lexington.
