ISU's stats in their game.

The stats are easy to access on espn. An overview, ISU qb only 50% completion percentage and decent 184 yards. ISU runners only 108 yards on 31 carries for a 3.5 ypc avg which is not great.

I dont think SE Mizzou is a strong opponent, 4-8 last year.

SE Mizzou qb 17/22 which is a good percentage for 142 yards, maybe a lot of short passes but still a lot of completions. SE Mizzou runners had 120 yards minus sacks on 36 carries for about 3.4 yard avg.

Overall, I dont see ISU having very strong stats. I think the hawks can run very well on ISU unless ISU totally sells out to stop it. ISU gave up a high percentage of completions so that bodes well for the hawks.

I think Iowa's defense looks pretty tough so I dont expect ISU to score a ot as long as the hawks dont give up a big play or two or short fields off of turnovers.

The Hawk OLine opened some impressive holes. The Dbacks did a great job, etc etc

I think a double digit win is coming up.

Isu running game will be an issue for them all year. RBs are inexperienced and didn’t look good. They will need to relay on their qb to get yards on the ground.

I think the game will come down to two simple things:

1. Finishing drives with touchdowns and not field goals (especially in the red zone)

2. Getting off the field when given the opportunity, defensively, and not going 9 good plays in a row not allowing them to do jacksh**, and then giving up a big play or a broken play for a TD..........multiple times.

This can be a great confidence building game... Power 5 team and a rivalry game but the team is bad. Focus on the first 2 parts and not the fact ISU is bad and it can be a launching pad for conference play.

1894- Bert German (first Iowa-ISU game, only year German coached at ISU)

1895- Pop Warner (yes THAT Pop Warner)

1907- Clyde Williams (former Iowa All-American)

1915- Charles Mayser

Mark Gronowski was 8-15 in his first game against Albany with one TD, and 44 yards passing. The Iowa State QB actually had better stats in his first game with two passing touchdowns and two running touchdowns.
Iowa won the game 34-7, about the same margin as Iowa State.

Great research, so we've literally only gave up one TD to their new coaches in the last five tries. 1987 was 3 FG and 2007 was 5 FG allowed. One 63 yard run by Troy Davis in 1995 being the lone exception. Let's keep that trend going Saturday.

Having a team with new players is not uncommon.

Fielding a team with zero returning starters on offense and zero returning starters on defense is exceptionally rare.

Personally, I think Iowa State has become Iowa's boogeyman. For some reason, whenever we meet them in nearly any sport, our teams just freeze. Ben McCollum is the first one to show fight in years, and I think things are going to change in basketball real soon.

With the talent and money disparity, I think it's unacceptable that Kirk has a poor of a record as he does against the Clowns. This is why I've emphasized the importance of this game. We must take back the Cy-Hawk series. It's important for the team to get confidence going forward and important for coaches like Lester, who twice now has been very poor when play calling against them.

The Clowns blew their load offensively against SEMO to try and prove they're an electric offense, but I think they'll be exposed soon enough, especially if they're unable to do anything with the run. Force their QB into tough pass situations and let him make mistakes. Iowa on the other hand should run down their throats until they can prove they can stop it. Just be tougher, and Iowa should win.

This stood out to me in a big way. I know NIU is not a quality opponent, and that probably explains oodles about opening up their line. On the other hand, if our OL can repeat this process against the Clones, I'd say we've really got something here. Do that. Get the run game going, and the QB's can feast.

I felt our O line was going to be very close to last year’s level. We arguably retained the best two from last year’s team and they knew they had a very good one Leighton Jones. Once we started hearing Winter was good enough to keep Pieper at Guard I figured we were in really good shape.

Same as it is every year. We have better players and more talent.

It should translate to a W this year, but I think game will be closer than we think

Let’s just open a Hayden Fry-style can of whoop *** on them this weekend and move on to the next week. Don’t give them hope, jump up big and keep the foot on the gas until the 4th quarter.
