My son texted me today and said he saw Roby on campus today with a boot on his foot. Did something happen already to him, or did I miss something weeks ago?

I thought maybe he had transferred. News still sucks. What is the normal recovery time (2-6 weeks)? Is this a reoccurring injury?

It's just a nagging injury more than anything. Goes away with some stretching and recovery stuff. He should not miss much if any time.

Definitely gonna need Roby, and right away too. There should be no Strength of Schedule problems this year. Seton Hall, Clemson, either TTech or USC, Oklahoma St., in the non-con; along with what figures to be a stronger B1G.

Miles needs to get NU to the NCAA tournament this year. There is no negotiating.

yes and yes it can be. You have a guy with that kind of size and explosiveness and eventually the wear and tear on your feet is going to catch up with you.

I've never had plantar fasciitis, but it seems like the severity can vary greatly. Some baseball players go on the 10-day DL and then they're fine, while others seem to struggle with it the whole season. But to your point, I wouldn't read too much into the fact that Roby's wearing a boot. Hopefully he'll get fully healed by mid-November when the tougher games begin.

Unfortunately playing above the rim and the tremendous forces that are exerted in that area taking off and landing can be pretty crippling for a guy like Roby with his kind of game. I would have to think that the kind of force Roby must exert on his feet is a lot greater than what a baseball player would do in most cases.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he had similar issues pre-season last year correct? He did not play as much to begin the season as he did late in the season but I think that had more to do with Miles not fully trusting him at that time. Ed Morrow also had the same issue and it plagued him all year. Granted, there were some rumors that he was being a baby about it.

I've had it and it can be extremely painful. Morrow was no sissy. He played hard. Jumped hard. Landed hard. Fouled hard. Tough guy. You may be right about Roby having it before. I don't recall what his injury was but his style makes him very susceptible to it. I know Miles was trying to be cautious with his playing time because of some injury problem he had. I'm amazed there aren't more foot injuries with the way guys like him can jump.

I agree with you. I just think this is the kind of injury where it's especially difficult to project the recovery time.

Exactly and the only thing that fixes it is to stay off of it for an extended time. That's not good bumping up this close to the start of the season.

I've never had plantar fasciitis but one would assume it'd be pretty damn tough to try to stay off your feet for weeks on end if you've got plantar fasciitis.

Hope Roby recovers from this.

Hopefully being young he'll recover quickly. It's typically the "old guys" in baseball that really suffer.

If Roby sees another year of improvement, can you imagine what next year looks like? Palmer, Copeland, Roby and Watson all gone. This team could go from Sweet 16 to 8-24. But I'd still take it for that one deep run.

I am definitely not a young kid and I had plantar fasciitis about a year ago. It was about the worst pain I had ever had. I could only stand for about 3 minutes at a time. But once it was diagnosed I was given muscle relaxers and told to stay off it. In about 5 days I fine. I get a twinge every once in a while but it's no big deal. Now I am not pretending to be jumping out of the gym, with the hard landing that follows. But my old body healed up pretty quickly once it was diagnosed.

Whining? No. Life is also too short to embrace mediocrity.
Again. You are talking about excuses and mediocrity BEFORE a game. I hope you don’t cheer for them when they make the NCAA tourney. Oh wait, I don’t have to worry about that because inside you want them to lose to prove your point.

Roby will be fine by Mid November. This is a non issue. Its kind of plagued him for a few years now.

Are you implying that you're actually worried about if I am cheering for them to lose? Isn't life too short to worry about if someone doesn't cheer for a loser, too?

Miles has done nothing to lead me to believe they will make another NCAA under his watch. I hope I'm wrong about this year.

But you don’t hope you’re wrong. That’s the point. You do you man. I just hate when people play this game. “We will suck (or be mediocre) but I hope we do great”. If they suck you say “see I knew it” if they are good “wow I’m glad I was wrong”. Take a stance.

Thanks, for the lecture and the mind-reading. For someone preaching optimism, it was too easy to unintentionally incite some hate out of you. Maybe you need to rethink your stance, not me.

I won’t be a Miles apologist, but I don’t understand where Husker basketball fans come from that think a coach coming to this program should see NCAA tournament appearances every other year. Nebraska has been in the tournament a total of 6 times IN ITS HISTORY before he came. Let me remind people in Miles’ 6 years he has made an NCAA tournament (2014), set a record for conference wins (2017) and has a team that many project as a contender for a conference title and with up to 3 players that have NBA potential.

So let’s say the experts are correct and Nebraska makes the NCAA tournament this year. That would be 2 out of 7 years making the NCAA tournament from a team that had an entire history of making the dance 6 times. I could also argue that the team last year had done enough to make the tournament - but at a minimum was considered a bubble team.

I don’t have a problem with high expectations, but I’m also realistic to know that looking at the entire history of a program, his performance in seven years (assuming an NCAA appearance) will be on par or better than what Danny Nee (arguably the most successful coach with 5 NCAA appearances in 15 years) accomplished.

Looks like Roby played a fair amount in the Huskers' scrimmage with Iowa State:

Hoops article

Got into foul trouble though. To me that's the biggest disadvantage of not having a big body in the lineup. Roby plays good post defense, but it's so hard for him to defend bigger guys without fouling.

I don't know why it is such an affront to one's manhood to play zone - particularly in college where athleticism seems to play a bigger factor than pure shooting.

A well played zone limits buckets at the rim, can limit fouls and makes teams prove they can shoot the ball.

We just need to hold on to Miles long enough for Dwanye Wade to come be our head coach.
Can he coach? Who knows... But he can likely bring in tons of McDonalds all American's

I agree, although Miles is actually not as stubborn about playing strictly man-to-man as a lot of other coaches. Tad Boyle at Colorado acts like he has to take a bath anytime the Buffs play zone, even when it helps them win a game. It's like he's constantly bidding to be president of the He-Man Zone Haters' Club.

I wouldn't want to rely solely on zone, but every team should have it in their arsenal - especially with all the moving screens that go uncalled, leading to open 3-pointers. Also, teams that rely on ball screens to run their offense often look helpless against zones. Why make their lives easier by playing man?
