Is he going to quit or is he getting fired?

Riley had no idea what he was getting himself into. Too bad. He thought he was going to do the same thing he did at OSU and that was going to make all the difference. Still have to coach Mike.

When Riley is fired, I wonder if, instead of calling Wisconsin for recommendations on the AD and Head Coach, we'll call Iowa this time.

I don’t have any idea, but who was the big name coaches or up and comers that would be available in 1997? I wonder what that alternate universe would look like. Who we would have gotten.
Mack Brown was supposedly dollar Bill Byrne's choice...

I see both sides.
1. If you keep him and by some snowballs chance he wins 6 or 7 games you put yourself in a bad situation.
2. The new AD shouldn't have to fire him.

But on the other side....
1. There's no one else on staff that will do better.
2. Recruiting, again snowball chance in hell that we keep some of them.

In a perfect world we would have an AD hired in secret...wait until after Iowa game, fire him, nannounce new AD, announce new coach a few weeks later.
