Please share your opinion and why on this:
This morning I took the guys who work for me to Wagners in Louisville for breakfast. This is next door to Churchill Downs for those not from Louisville.
While eating we witnessed something that carried over into somewhat an argument. The guys who work for me at UL fans and they think I feel the way I do only because I am a UK fan. Here is what we saw:
A basketball player from UL was with a coach from UL eating. When they finished the coach paid the bill. The player never tried to pay, nothing. It was like he either expected it or was used to being treated this way. I said that was illegal, that a coach can not buy breakfast for one player alone and not provide this for any other student.

You could just imagine how this conversation went from there. I could not resist telling them over and over how UL just can not help themselves when it comes to cheating. Some people are hooked on drugs or alcohol but UL seems to fascinated with cheating.

Who is right on this?

If I am wrong, I will own up to it.

You are correct. A few years ago a coach of mine working a camp at UK picked up a player and drove him to the camp and was reprimanded

Seems like a trivial violation if it is a violation at all. We got hit during the Tubby years for some players being treated to a meal at Joe Bologna's and that place was banned for UK players to go to for years. That didn't even involve coaches but NCAA looked into it. Wouldn't say it's illegal but might be just a very minor violation.

It's not illegal, though it may be a small ncaa violation. But whatever, I don't care either way. If a coach wants to buy his player a meal, screw the NCAA.

^^^Exactly. Yes, it's a violation, but I can't fathom why any fan would care.

I thought it was changed to where the Schools could pay for players meals? Maybe I’m wrong but if not I would think coaches would fall under that and be able to buy food.

If I was making good money as a D1 coach at a large university, I would take my players to a sensible meal all the time. And if the NCAA had a problem with it, I'd tell them to fine me personally and put my tab at the bottom of the list of major NCAA infractions by major universities that they haven't gotten around to yet. Or, better yet, tell them it was a AFAM study session.

I could not agree with you more but the point is, a violation is a violation.
I remember Dale Brown from LSU getting into trouble for buying a player suit and place ticket so he could attend his grandmothers funeral. I thought that was BS on the part of NCAA but they still held him to rule of the law.

It is a violation plain and simple years ago Denny Crum was recruiting Dwayne Morton and a sports caster friend saw them in Mastersons he put it on the air and when Pitino saw it he called the NCAA

Pretty sure the late Rick Majerus got slapped on the wrist for doing this for one of his Utah players after the kid’s father died. I remember being pretty upset about it.

I don't care what they do, but if I were a U6 coach right now I'd be following the rules to the letter. They've already got their wiener on the anvil.

It's legal for the school to buy players food, just because you saw a coach paying for it doesn't mean it was with his money. Depends on what they were doing, they could have doing a PSA, or some other kind of event related to the basketball program.

Man! I don't know which way to think. U6 is a bunch of cheating scum, but the UNCAA has played favorites for so long I loathe them too. There are no good guys to pull for in this situation.

I get what you're saying but it's a stupid rule and a very low violation. Don't worry, it's Louisville. They'll be busted for **** sooner than later if the last 12 years are any indication.

Majerus thought he could do it because he lived in a hotel. Coaches could have meals for their players at their homes, and Majerus didn't have a home, so he thought that he could buy meals for his guys and it would be fine.

The NCAA came down on him. It was silly. Majerus would use the meals with his players as a form of counseling them about different things they were going through. I think the guy whose father passed away was Keith Van Horn.

The bigger violation was that they were eating breakfast after an all nighter at the strip club.

Seriously tho...don't care about this. But I often wonder about the bodies Jurich had buried around town and the things they did that we'll never find out about.

Majerus was a nasty fat a$$ who often would call meetings in his hotel room and be buck naked. But this story is the nastiest I’ve ever heard:

"Not knowing what to expect, we sat back eagerly awaiting his next move. What happened next still haunts me to this day. Majerus took the towel, pulled his pants down, and quickly took a dump into the towel, which he was holding under his ***. After he was done he used part of the towel to wipe, wrapped it up, and HANDED IT BACK TO THE MANAGER, and told him to throw it away. The kid looked like a deer in giant Rick Majerus headlights. The whole room was silent. Rick just pulled his pants up and went back to the scout, never once mentioning it or acting like anything out of the ordinary had occurred."

Per the author of that article, that is 100% a rumor that he’s publishing just to show his (lack of) journalism ethics:

“The first one is from an anonymous reader. Craggs reached out to two former Majerus players to confirm this story. Both claimed to have heard it before. Neither witnessed it firsthand. I reached out to Scott Price, who said he had not heard this particular story. It appears to be one of those Majerus stories that gets passed down from one generation of players to another, like a poem from the classics. Only poopier. Its veracity is questionable. Its entertainment value is not.”

Rule states that for breakfast, coach can buy player scrambled but no other form of eggs. So the big question is, how were the eggs prepared?

That’s not true. The breakfast rule is you can’t spread cream cheese on a bagel counter clockwise but really you just say you have all of your students spread counter clockwise and so poof. No Violatiunc.

Who cares?

We now live in a new era. It's hard to believe coaches got in trouble in the past for stupid **** like hosting a BBQ or like that Ohio State OB who got free tats. That stuff is chump change now. It is tinier than chump change. Now with NIL, what used to be considered high level cheating is now legitimate. It is all above board now. Have any of you paid attention to what went on with this past College Football recruiting season? We are talking about top recruits being promised million dollar figures. I heard Texas A&M arranged for over 10 million dollars to be paid out for their recent recruiting class.

If Mitch, Cal, and Stoops aren't getting together with top boosters and top corporate donors in order to get organized with these NIL deals, then they aren't doing their jobs and will get left in the dust by competitors.

Do you know for sure it was a coach? Like 100% a bench coach. But after that I can’t say I have a problem with a well paid coach taking a player to get some food, take Bledsoe for example. That kid was so poor when he got here that there’s no way he could afford to go out for a breakfast. We would be mad if the NCAA punished us over something so ridiculous. It may be illegal, and UofL is definitely not smart doing it in the open but it’s like the smallest benefit any player can get this day and age.

Don’t work like that. Tough guy talk is all fine and good. However the NCAA has used minor crap before to get their foot in the door. The cheating scumbag Pearl opened the door with a barbecue and they ripped his ***.
