Is the Pope a hypocrite?

“In the social and civil context as well, I appeal not to create walls but to build bridges,” the pope said Wednesday from within the walled enclave of Vatican City.


Has anyone been to Vatican City? Have you seen the size of their wall? It's enormous. And the guarded entrance?

Also, the Pope seems either confused or intentionally misleading. You can both build a wall and build bridges of cooperation and friendship. Walls make great neighbors, after all. It is very tough to have great relations when so many bad things are crossing a relatively open border. Walls would make better relations much easier, imo.

Wrong, but not entirely. Some of the wall was built in the 9th century for security reasons, the rest was built in the 16th century by Pope Leo IV as a political statement (where have we seen that before), sort of a "mine's bigger than your's thing." Some of it only gives the illusion of a wall, like the colonnade immediately surrounding St. Peter's Square, looks like a wall but it is decorative only.

The unfortunate reality of a modern society. Just like an airport, your local court house, and other local government buildings. However, unless you set off the metal detectors you are not denied access, at least not to the general grounds. Because of the volume of people wanting to see the inside of the Vatican some areas require an advance reservation. But I think to see inside St. Peters Basilica you just have to queue up.

Functional? It's 1,200 years old! How functional do you want it to be?
I believe these days it is mostly decorative, I'm not sure that some parts of it are even still standing. I know on the back side they took some of it down because they needed to have truck access for deliveries.

I'll attack anyone's hypocrisy. Like Hollywood libs complaining about guns. They haver 24 hour security, body guards with guns but they don't want the rest of us to have any protection.

A life is a life. Who are you to suggest they are deserving of more protection than anyone else. Why give them access to guns and not the rural American protecting his family with police officers miles and miles away?

That Pope just needs to shut his mouth...So if he got his own apartment down the hill somewhere, then he could say it huh? lol If you live behind a wall, you can't say anything to another wall builder or something, is that it? How would you lay it out? Obviously that kind of thinking gets great traction in the far right wing world. You're always calling people hypocrites, what's up with that? It seems like everyone is one but you. No special love for the Pope, I just saw this dopey thread and couldn't help sharing my thoughts with you, pretty cool huh?

When you castigate others who want protection with a wall and you yourself have a wall (and much, much more for protection), you're a hypocrite. What is the old saying, "Practice what you preach."
