Josh Okogie has been in the NBA for 10 years. Strictly for his defensive skill guarding wings. Otega has the ability to do that. Will he concede that’s the only way he can have an extended NBA career and work toward that? Who knows?
Oweh is not a good defender. All he does is gamble. When the gamble pays off it looks great. The 95% it doesn’t his man is wide open.

He plays no help defense.

He’s a net zero player. That’s the reason he’s still in college.

And the only reason he’s still at UK is because we wrote the biggest check.

Touch money on 3!!

Doubt it, he hasn't improved in the areas he needed to for an NBA team to give him much of a look. He might get drafted 2nd round but I doubt he is ever in the NBA for more than a moment. Hope I'm wrong because I like OO and wish he could make a career for himself. Maybe overseas???

Just not true. The NBA is the best defense in the world. If a guy can’t play defense in the NBA he has to be all world on offense to stick.
Agree and I hate the NBA. But go listen to Reed’s comments about how much faster the NBA game is and how now in his 2nd year it is slowing down for him.

It really stuns me how people think the top players in the world suddenly are in some agreement to guard nobody.

Think how our D1 athletes struggle to stay in front of other D1 players. Now take the elite of the elite and relax the travel/carry rules and you get the offense you see.

That’s because 99% of people’s opinions are something they heard from someone else and didn’t even bother to decide for themselves. When someone says they don’t play defense in the NBA, the only thing I hear them say is, “I don’t watch the NBA, but I do allow other people to think for me.” @UKBB4Ever is absolutely correct on this, if you can’t guard in the NBA, you better be ELITE on offense or you’ll be on Indeed in weeks.

yep and unfortunately I don’t think at 6‘4” Oweh is going to make it. Hope for him that I’m wrong. Do think he will get paid somewhere to play though.

He could be a 2-way level guy. A poor man’s Jimmy Butler. I think Aberdeen is the one who may have more NBA upside. Think he finds a roster spot and might stick around.

No chance. He’s a ‘good’ college player that throws up wild layups like Archie Goodwin used to do and would rather look at himself in the mirror than listen to his coach or give a sh*t about UK or his teammates. 00 loves him some 00.

No. I like the kid, but no. He has no handle at all, he goes left too much, he can’t finish left consistently enough, he can’t shoot, he can’t pass. His D is ok, but gambles way too much and ***** his team. So, no.

Yes, we will, but will be 11th, 12th man.

While his form isn't good on his 3pt shot, he's not horrible from out there (35.5% both last year and this year).
He's definitely not a PG, but his handle is good enough to be a SG or SF. He rebounds decently and is strong enough to play SF, only giving up 1-2" but is stronger than a lot of SF's to make up for that.
He is good at taking contact on his drives.
Defensively he is above average.
Oweh's best case, if he found "the right team", would be a lessor version of Keldon Johnson

I doubt it, but he's a really good college player. Unfortunately I don't see us finding a guy who can replace his production next year, especially with our current lack of recruiting.
No offense to the player but I am glad he is gone. If he is your main offensive weapon you are not a very good team.

I struggle to see JQ making an NBA roster, when Oscar cannot do it. I do not see Oweh as a pro, but hard to be certain.
Oscar was a great rebounder but that was it. JQ, if healthy, has way more upside. He is already a much better defender than Oscar

He seemed to have worked on his 3 pt shooting but overall, he’s still a 6-4” small forward that primarily drives to the hoop. Did he improve enough this year to be picked by an NBA team?
Yes, he is an NBA player. He was drafted to Miami and already logged his first trade.

Yes he absolutely is and for this one reason. Watch the NBA finals and one thing stands out above all else in todays game - this league is a warrior, dog league. Yes OO will struggle on the offensive side some with his outside game and and ability to make 3s but he is as athletic and physical with the ball going down hill and will has the same physical toughness and strength on the defensive side to go with it that will make him a tremendous bench guy to bring in in spells.

The days of really good skill guys dominating just with that alone are ending and today you have to have those skills PLUS some real dog and physical mentality to you to succeed at a high level in todays game. Its is a physical war out there come playoff time and I think OKC got a perfect piece to mix in with OO. And he may devleop a consistent mid range game to go with that too over time that will make him less of a liability on the offensive end too. I think he plays a lot of years in the league.

NBA offense is so good they make defense look bad, but if you really watch playoff basketball or even regular season games, especially live they are all fast and rotate in a second to other guys. They would dominate a college team defensively. Pros make tough shots all night long. They sandbag sometimes and old guys that save energy for offense look bad a lot of times. Overall they play well on both ends.

Oweh worked hard and really improved while at UK. His senior year did not start for him like he would have wanted but he is clearly a baller and could be a solid rotational piece. Happy for him!!
I’ll never understand the hate he gets on here. Dude balled out for two years. Every night we could count on him. We would have been so bad without him.

That’s not his problem, he didn’t recruit the team. I bet if we had a PG, a healthy JQ, and half the other guys showed up every night he would be amazing. He was amazing on the first years team, even better last year.

Yes. He’s physical and will have much better coaching in the NBA. Can get to the rim and has a decent mid-range jumper. I say he makes a roster.

Historically, about 65% to 70% of NBA second-round picks eventually make an active regular-season roster and play at least one NBA game. However, this rate drops significantly to under 40% for picks selected in the second half of the round (picks 46–60), where players frequently land on Two-Way contracts or are stashed overseas. The likelihood of signing a guaranteed NBA contract and sticking with a roster spot closely correlates with the draft slot:

Roster Survival and Contract Rates
  • Early Second Round (Picks 31–45): Over 80% of these players make it onto an NBA roster. In fact, college players in this range secure guaranteed standard minimum rookie contracts at highly elevated rates.
  • Late Second Round (Picks 46–60): Less than 40% make it to the active NBA level. Teams typically use these later selections for Two-Way contracts or draft-and-stash prospects who may not see NBA minutes until years later

He was a scorer and defender and moved the ball down the floor almost as fast as John Wall when he had a lane. If you think about your comment, why would you be glad he was gone as your comment is really more about his supporting cast.
