Is Michigan overlooking us?

You would certainly think so by recent posts on Michigan's flagship blog, mgoblog. They today posted an article of "over-performing players" with nary a mention of anyone from NU. http://mgoblog.com/content/weeks-obsession-big-ten-check#more

Perusing the internet, not much chatter on the NU-Michigan game, but a whole lot of talk about MSU in 2 weeks.

I thought the game would be a close win for NU, but if Michigan overlooks NU at all expect a final score more of the Minnesota variety in NU's favor.

Fan overlooking is not the same as the team overlooking. Fan overlooking means nothing. Team overlooking is a different story

Fine, but you have to wonder if MSU is one of those games the players and coaches had circled coming into the season... the fan attitude might reflect the team's

As someone else said, it's hard to imagine overlooking a team that is undefeated and ranked higher than you. They may be slightly overconfident hearing that they're favored by so much, but I don't think they're overlooking us.

We are not a divisional match, so game is not as important to them as to their games with MSU and Long time rival OSU. Our Iowa game is more important to us than our Michigan game.

Northwestern is easily UM's 4th best opponent after three top 5 teams they'll play this year. I know a lot of fans are psyched here to find out what UM actually has versus a known, top 20 team. I do not think overlooking NU will be UM's problem, that will more likely be the overlooking of recruiting quality QBs the last five years.

Yes. But everyone always overlooks us, even our own fans. Any time someone mentions that we may win our division, most our fans go in barbie tantrum mode and act like we are going to jinx something. God forbid NC talk.

You've now mentioned twice that NU will be the 4th best team um plays this year. At the end of the season, you may have a different take.

BTW, if that's the players attitude, it's going to be a long day for um.

No question the fans are looking ahead to the MSU game. Typical is the UM fan comment below:

(I will concede that the coaches, and to a lesser extent the players, are probably not overlooking Northwestern but the overall UM mindset appears to be that they have bigger fish to fry. This is their trap game.)

"I think our defense will handle these guys handily (knock on wood), leaving them with little ability to put points on the board. Their defense probably will handle us handily as well, though I think given the fact that our offense is better than theirs and we'll be at home, I'm confident we can eke out one or two big plays, get the win, and make Dantonio shake in his boots a little (more) going into next week."

So I'm curious.....if the other three are OSU, MSU and Utah, which do you think the Cats will end up being better than?

Considering that they know they should have lost to us the last 3 games in a row, I would think the current players have a healthy respect for this upcoming game.

The guy says he thinks both defenses will handle the other team's offense, but that Michigan's O is slightly better (in his opinion) and the game is @UM. That is his reasoning for a UM win, and that is somehow overlooking Northwestern?

I do not understand statements like this. I am very glad that last year's Cats team is not playing in this game. I wish last year's Michigan team was. But neither are involved. This year's Cats are going to win this game. Last year's Cats no longer exist. If they did, then we would have the nickname... they would be Schrodinger's Cats.

I left out some descriptors there. I should have clarified, MICHIGAN players are unlikely to overlook this game because many have been around for the last few games which MICHIGAN should have lost, and they know it. They also know we're better this year, at least on D, so I'm sure they have a healthy respect.

Okay. That makes sense. Hopefully you are incorrect and they are completely overlooking us and preparing for MSU. But I would tend to believe that you are correct.
