Is it time for the SEC to go rogue?

Have a big meeting with all Presidents and AD and figure out a conference only football schedule as I don't see all schools agreeing to play and I don't trust the NCAA to actually figure things out.

  • 12 games - 6 home, 6 away
  • All players sign the best waiver lawyers can draw up.
  • Players testing positive for COVID are ineligible for x # of days.
  • Players tested every Friday and Tuesday at least.
  • Maybe even some of these new sports masks are viable to actually play in - I haven't tried one yet but seen some advertisements. Or maybe some other adjustments to facemask can be made.
  • Players can opt out and keep their scholarship
  • Maybe no fans - or maybe just students? TBD

I think most of the players want to play, the schools want the revenue, the networks want the ratings and the fans clearly want it and this population has a very small risk of major infection.

Could it be done?

Maybe we should consider what the best doctors and scientists in the world have to say protecting the global population and not count on some 18yo football player to make that decision.

Good idea.
Mississippi flag finally changed, check.
Let’s start a “Can’t spell secession without SEC”, check.

So what do you do when member schools and even NCAA members inevitably disagree on what to do and how to do it?

Be a heck of a lot easier to get agreement at conference levels in my opinion.

If football is to be played it's going to take a uniform set of policies that everyone agrees to and from what I'm seeing, that's going to be near impossible.

IT would be easier to get it down to 14 like-minded people and you could play 7 on 7. After that you are down to Greco-Roman wrestling. When that falls apart we can televise solo activities....maybe I should buy stock in twitch.

Hope I’m wrong but I don’t see us playing college football this year.
Too many variables in what each player, each school, conference, doctors/scientists and the NCAA can agree upon.
Will be a fiasco and if we do get started, I can see it being 2-3 weeks into the season, it’s Friday afternoon, something happens and all remaining games are canceled.
Just my predictions.
As I said, hope I’m 17ing wrong.

How much revenue is there for the schools without fans? No ticket sales. No concessions. No parking. No economic boost for businesses. I don't see how a no-fans college football season benefits anyone other than the TV networks.

Me too, if I had to make a bet I’d unfortunately hafta put money on a no go. I’ve still got pretty serious doubts on the pro sports. They won’t announce it but they will have a “number” and if it’s hit after a couple weeks they’re probably going to shut it down. I just don’t think you can insulate grown men enough to keep a playable population healthy without seriously raiding the minors, g-league, practice squads, and/or CFL/AFL/XFL/.

Millions. SEC schools get millions from those TV contracts. Can't remember if it's 60% or more, but a huge chunk of football revenue is just from those contracts, so it is critically important to have a season in order to maintain that revenue stream even without fans in the stands.

I’m guessing it’s in Rights/Licensing since it comes from the SEC.
