Nebraska was ranked. Why? Illinois was ranked after getting demolished 63-10 by an Indiana team Iowa had on the ropes. And Illinois was destroyed by Washington yesterday, giving up 42 more points. If Iowa isn't ranked this week, that would be gross malfeasance, plain and simple. Not that it matters.
I know it’s nice when your team has a number next to its name, but like I alluded to above, the Oregon game is the one that matters. That is the game that will unequivocally show the country whether Iowa belongs in discussion among contenders or not.

Don’t count on it. The view continues in the college football universe that Iowa has no offense. When so many of Iowa’s points come from special teams and defense, that’s a hard perception to shake.

I predict we show up in “Also Receiving Votes”
Nope,
Bank on the rank. Not a big deal either way. Beat Oregon and they will be top 15 for sure.

AP Top 25 Losers yesterday:
#24 Arizona St
#23 Illinois
#20 LSU
#18 South Florida
#15 Missouri
#13 Oklahoma
And any poll voter with a shred of self-respect will drop Texas out of their rankings.

I think Iowa would need 5 to drop out in order to get ranked, since I think that Houston, Utah, USC and Washington would be the next 4 in.

A top five defense and I see the team is ranked 52nd in scoring which is the main offensive metric and very good special teams should put Iowa in the top 20-25.

Wetjen is turning short passes into big gains and RVZ had a very good twisting catch yesterday on a great throw.
And where are we in both major polls this morning?

Made. My point is.

Nope. We’re still “receiving votes.” Until this team actually does something, that’s about where we belong.

Now beat Oregon…

Hey guys, the team that's 6-2, 3rd in the Big, took the #2 team down to the wire, 2nd in the nation in yards allowed, just beat a 5-2 team by 38 points hasn't done anything this season.
Close only counts in horseshoes.

It means defenses knew we couldn’t pass the ball so they would load the box and stuff the run. Now that we might actually be able to pass the ball, defenses can’t do that anymore so the running game has opened up.
Actually, not what he was saying at all. He went on to say something like having a second run threat doesn't allow the defense to key on the running back. He was talking about Gronowski's ability to move the ball with his legs.

We won the games we were supposed to and lost both against (then) ranked teams. Beat Oregon and we'll be in the National discussion.

Heard Joel Klatt today on Cowherd, and obviously he's kind of a Big Ten homer. They were having the Big Ten-SEC discussion, and he has become a pretty big proponent of Iowa. Didn't really say anything new, just how we've played IU tougher than anyone and definitely thought if we were an SEC team we would clearly be ranked.
