I saw some of a tour event on tv the other day. Would watch again. Next Olympic sport if it's not already.

Disc golf is one of those sports I'd rather play than watch. It's basically walking in nature with friends and throwing a disc now and then. It definitely takes skill to do it well but OTOH you can be a complete amateur and still have fun playing, unlike real golf where you can swing and miss the ball completely, or have it shoot off at a 90 degree angle.

I didn't know they had tour events on TV.

Looks like a family type game played at picnics.

It's not like a game where everyone is picnicking and 50 feet away others are playing, like bocci ball or horseshoes. Instead you walk a course of 9 or 18 holes and play. It takes a lot of land and at any given time the only people near you are those in your foursome, or however big your playing group is.

Sounds like Golf.

Sounds like Golf.

It is like golf except that you throw a disc/frisbee thing instead of hitting a golf ball and instead of holes in the ground like on a golf course, there are metal baskets that you have to throw the disc/frisbee into.

Here is a disc golf hole. The part sticking up over the basket is so you can hit that with your disc and then have it fall into the basket, since it would be too hard to land it right in the basket otherwise.

...i'm kind of torn on this very important issue
yes and it will change to grow more viewer friendly. they are already having major events on open golf courses. the things some guys can do with a disc are insane.
one of the best disc golf shots ever

And 2 of the best rounds

That's too...I don't know the word..."professional" maybe, for me. The ads are a turnoff. There was even an ad on one of the baskets. And they way the crowd and the announcers treat it like real golf...I don't know.

I'm more accustomed to just a few friends going out and having fun. We didn't even keep score other than to note the par for each hole as we started the hole and then see if we could par or birdie it. I was the worst player in our regular foursome but I still always had fun. Basically you're out in nature with friends and chatting and walking and throwing a disc now and then.

In that video, they got to take a run up even on their 2nd shot. I don't know if there are official rules, but when I played, you could get a run up on the cement on the tee shot but after that, you picked the disc up and put a foot on where it landed and you had the throw it with your foot on that spot.

There is a disc golf course a quartile mile from where I live but I haven't played in a long time. I don't know anyone that plays anymore.

I understand they do the ads for the money and I don't blame them because it's not a big time sport but it's just not great to look at for me. I'm amazed how many tournaments there are. There's one not too far from me this weekend. I may go to one in March or April when it warms up.

part of my job as a municipal golf course super was to "advise" the newly formed disc golf club on hole/ basket design and placement...gagged me then...gags me now..that was 12 years ago...it's glorified frisbee football

Ultimate Frisbee is the one that is like frisbee football.
