Legitimate discussion. Here are my points:

1) Ratings and attendance have plummeted across the country, even with ticket prices dropping and upgrades to arenas.

2) Scandals have abounded. From Adidas, to strippers, to academic scandals, to a slew of other things, does anyone really believe the sport is pure anymore? Further, does anyone believe there is a governing body who can enforce some sort of unbiased order?

3) One and done is about to become none and done. If you remove the ultra premium players in this already devastating climate, where does the sport go?

4) The NBA has been sinking brand and brain equity into their “g-league”...if that continues, what happens to the already cashed strapped, scandal ridden, talent depleted college leagues?

Obviously Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and a couple others have die hard college fans, but mostly no one cares about the sport anymore.

With everything going on, can CBB survive in any meaningful way?

Sad.
About as dead as this post.

Already been addressed. Nielsen is garbage with streaming. See above.

lol . “Facts aren’t facts if it doesn’t fit my agenda!”

Look man, you were wrong. It’s not something to be embarrassed about. It happens. You were clearly wrong, and even when provided with actual facts. Like literal facts... you still choose to duck and dodge ?
It’s like me arguing that grass isn’t green. No matter how many times i try and tell somebody it’s not green... doesn’t change the fact that it’s green

Just own it brother.

TV ratings aren’t some big hidden conspiracy

I was a huge NBA fan as a kid from the mid-late 60's probably through the late 90's or early 2000's. I became more of a casual fan because I thought the game just devolved into a hack fest that was hard to watch. My NBA fandom didn't go much further than checking the box scores for former UK player results.

Then about 3-4 years ago a coworker asked me if I was going to watch the Spurs and Warriors that night. I told him probably not and that I rarely watched NBA basketball, and told him why. He asked me if I would just watch the 1st quarter and let him know what I thought the next day. Well, I watched the first quarter, then the 2nd, and in spite of me having to get up at 4:30 AM for work, I finished the game. Steph Curry was amazing. The ball movement by both teams was amazing. The game went down to the wire with the Warriors winning in the closing seconds. I was hooked. Like you, I don't have the emotional attachment that I do UK, but if there's an interesting NBA matchup on, I'll gladly watch.

I go to the Grizzlies games sometimes, and have to keep myself from falling asleep. No joke, the NBA is so vanilla that it just makes me want to do something else.

The 80's / 90's era wasn't a hack fest, it was ultra competitive. There was a price to pay if you wanted to win. Today's NBA is soft, just like the NFL. I don't think many of these guys today care past 24 hours if they win or not. It's just a different breed of athlete today. And it's not anywhere near as enjoyable imo.

Having said that, once I started gambling on games, it really hurt my interest level when I'm not gambling. Since I try and stay away from making bets today, it's probably got a lot to do with it.

The decline of college basketball is not because of one single issue (to the extent that there is a decline).

College basketball will not "die". There is too much money involved. So with that aside, other than the NBA and NCAA somehow buying out the product and fully professionalizing it, it's not really a point.

Something that is rarely talked about that has hurt the game badly is the push of the cinderella's. The NCAA tournament has hurt the game simply because it has watered down the importance week to week. The result is it's created a path for teams who really didn't earn the right to have one, it's turned into a tournament where we encourage average joe's to create a storyline instead of battle tested teams that proved their worth.

You could fix most of college basketballs issues by doing two things.

1. Change the officiating strategy and policy procedures.

2. Take the tournament down to 32 teams.

It's not going to happen, but the expansion of the tournament has been good for revenue and the little guy, but at the expense of the entire season for everyone else.

Technically grass isn't green. So if I tell you grass is not green, it doesn't matter how many times you say it is. It isn't. Remove your eyes and tell me what color it is.

Not wrong.

If you have been to NCAAT games you know you get “session passes”, hyper inflates the attendance figures especially on sessions with one “draw” and 3 “duds”.

In regular season games? Lmao. Rupp reports 22k frequently and there are more like 15-16k there. So many open seats esp in bad matchups. Btw, we “lead the nation” in attendance.

Why not reference any of the other points? Loooool.

I've been to a lot of NCAA tournament games. They always look pretty full to me.

Just own it.
