I like him personally but the game has passed him by
This is sort of what I'm settling into. I've been a big Cal supporter and haven't been on the "Fire Calipari!" bandwagon but we've lost a ton of momentum as a program. Fell short of a Final Four in 2019, last year was historically terrible, and it just seems like our teams don't play with any cohesion anymore. I don't know what's going on but it isn't good.

He’s just not the recruiter K is and that explains tonight. Outside Oscar we have no one of the caliber of Banchero, Keels, and Johns and it shows. (And not Wendell Moore either for that matter.)

But I’m still giving him this season and he can still redeem himself during it. Tonight was about Duke’s raw talent. A clicking offensive and defensive system could have overcome that and we’ll know whether we can build one by the end of the season.

Cal still has a ticket from me to try to do that. If he does I think the future looks a little brighter for him regardless. Landing Lively notwithstanding, I just don’t see any way Scheyer can really sustain K-level recruiting very long. Cal and his new staff can fill as much of that void as they earn.

Cal badly needs to implement a structured offense and tailor it to the players he has on hand in a given season. And he needs to make them play within that offense. But before tonight's game, per Cal's own comments on the countdown to tipoff show, he told them to "go out there and have fun and treat this like a New York City street ball pick-up game". And it appears that is exactly what some of these guys, TyTy especially, did. Our offense simply sucks because we don't have an offense. We have guards out there trying to make plays, as Cal puts it. So they are always forcing things and never get into any kind of flow or rhythm. Cal needs to drop this goofy **** he's been doing since he's been here and develop an actual offense, otherwise we're always going to come up short. If he is unable or unwilling to do that, I wish he would just leave.
