Everything you just said is completely disproved by Sharpe.

Try again.
No. The Sharpe situation is unique, that was a gamble. Turn off your illogical contrarian brain and stop filtering everything through your intense hate for Cal. Why wouldn't he show disinterest in promoting a new status quo that makes his greatest strength useless? You want this to be another 'Cal bad' moment so badly you miss the bigger point. If college basketball becomes about players with a price tag, you better believe Kentucky will be a small market, and all the championships will go to the big cities, not the greatest traditions.

You should have known what I was going to say next.

If he isn't interested in players only out for money, then why did he take Sharpe?

His behavior here is INCONSISTENT.
Your arguments are consistently inconsistent. Try not posting so much and go back and reread your prior posts. That might help some.

Wrong. If and when Cal shows up on draft night it proves that he approved of the Sharpe situation. But I'm glad you staked out a position that Cal was duped. But if that is your position, Cal should go nowhere near Sharpe on draft night.

Or you could back up your statement. That might help some. Make a claim, run away. Typical Brigader tactic.

"Brigader"? I'm gonna have to start writing down all these nicknames you haters have for actual fans. I hadn't seen that one.

LOL @ "actual fans"

Fans of what? You never discuss the games. You only appear to bash other fans who are critical of Cal.
And all you do is spin everything into you hatred. You can't support the team because you hate the coach.

And there it is. You can't even have a conversation without going after somebody personally. And of course your attacks are meaningless and empty, since you can't back them up with facts.

Maybe to you, but at least I have an opinion, unlike you who does nothing but attack people.
I have plenty of opinions, I was expressing them long before you showed up. But we are in a place right now where so-called grownups have been bashing and bawling for so long I'm sick it. If you consider the same morons repeating the same tired hate " expressing their opinions", well, you missed out on a great fan board. Now it's a cesspool of negativity. Irritating the stupid by pointing out their hypocrisy brings me joy. Don't like it? Don't care.

Cal just announced that he will not participate in NIL transfer bidding wars.

Cal doesn't write checks. Mitch does.

Cal's apparently been told what his cap is.

He's not going to be able to compete for top flight transfers.

Is he planning an exit strategy? He might negotiate a smaller but still substantial buyout and head for the door like Tubby did.

Remember, Wright just retired, likely because he saw this coming and wanted his legacy preserved. So did K and Roy. Can Cal work through the frustration he's about to endure?

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that the NIL is not paid or authorized by the University, so why would Cal even mention this?
Is it maybe because Baylor and his agent had specifications about how he wanted to be used on the team he chooses. I read that it was mentioned that the offense must run through him. That might be what was behind the comment.

I know nothing about Cal being given a cap on recruits. Do you know what that number is? As you mentioned above, the university does not write the checks to fund NIL.

He just recruited Wallace and Livingston so he is still getting top flight recruits.

If players are now showing up with a price tag, well, that changes everything, and being a top notch recruiter will be as useful in college as it is in the NBA. and being Kentucky will mean nothing.
I have thought this was going to be an issue from day 1 and not just portal guys. Realistically where are the big dollars going to be coming from for NIL on a consistent basis? It’s not like local businesses have unlimited budgets to drop on these kids.

Won’t the big dollars come from NIL deals with the Nikes of the world and not local businesses? If so, another reason Cal should not have snubbed Nike and Phil Knight. The big dollars for the top guys are going to come from major corporations and they are going to want to be associated with the trendiest/hottest most viewed (by preferred demographic which isn’t 50 year old couch potato fans) program. Falling behind in NIL could be a downward spiral that gets more and more difficult to escape.

Also isn’t Cal being a bit hypocritical here with his words? He is always talking about getting kids to the NBA for the monetary security and how that is critical to some of these families? Now that they can get some financial security through NIL deals, Cal is put off by recruits wanting that?

So Cal saying he wasn't going to negotiate is following the rules, but why are players calling up demanding guarantees? Are some schools meeting those demands?
My guess is that they are. I am afraid we are beginning to see the effects of NIL on small market schools with a small alumni income like UK. We just can't compete with the East or West coast $$$$ folks.
These kids today were 7 years old the last time they saw UK cut down the nets. They don't wanna hear BS redneck debates about Rupp Arenas name or get bashed for their political beliefs. They DGAF about Rupp, tradition, our history, or the name on the chest. That is from a time they know nothing of. It means less than zero to most of them.
They want big $$$$ and a quick pass to the NBA from the schools that will make that happen.
I'm afraid a year in Lexington is looking less and less appealing every day in the current climate Cal, the NBA and the NIL system has created at UK.

The gig is up...obvious he can no longer reel in the big fish...which he can't win without.

UK mutual settlement can't come soon enough.

I'm not defending Cal. I'm just clarifying the points. I have no idea why he took Sharpe. I don't think any of us have the real story behind how that unfolded. Sharpe was not a transfer so I don't think Sharpe plays into the discussion about NIL and transfers.

I think you are very much over the target. I have said for a while here and many have bashed, but I think Cal knows the anger within the base, Lucas leaving was another glaring sign that things are not going well, everyone knows it. He will coach this year I believe, unless he wants to send the Bennies a parting shot and screw the program, hope I am wrong on him potentially walking out in Sept/OCT but I strongly believe this is his last year, jmo

I don't care either. Flame away. Thanks for admitting you have a sociopathic tendency, too. It helps me understand why you are so irrational and angry. Just know that you are never going to bully anyone here into shutting up, little fella.

You're still battling on? You mixed your Cal hate and a lack of understanding about the NIL into an ill advised post, you've been shot down. You could just take the L, but you continue to pick at minutiae. Good for you, I guess.

First of all, the university doesn't write these kids a check, right? Second, I thought the whole NIL was exactly how it was initialed, Name, Image and Likeness? I thought businesses and other advertising agencies were the ones paying these kids for that very reason, based upon their popularity? What am I missing?
You are missing nothing. Pay to play, pay to induce or retain is expressly against the rules. KY pays zero.

I think Cal is just not going to guarantee anything to a player much like what happened down in Miami. Which he shouldn’t. I love NIL but the players should have some knowledge of how much money they can make at certain schools. And to make demands is silly. I’m sure some schools will bend but the first time a player doesn’t make what he was “promised” outside of a contract from a company, you can bet the agent is going to be trashing that school and coach. Cal has enough issues without adding onto this

You're still here? I guess you have nothing better to do than nitpick people you hate. Good for you, I guess. My post stands regardless. Cal made an ill-advised statement on radio and you showed up to White Knight for him, and you devolved into your usual schtick of personal attacks. Your opinions are beneath contempt.

Then why did Cal say it? Making it public can ONLY HURT recruiting.

Maybe Cal is trying to shift blame away from himself. This smacks of a shot across the bow at his bosses.
Cal was saying he wouldn't get in the middle of the bs like the kid from SD State is doing. And the kid from Miami. Same agent go figure. What he means is he will not be involved in pissing contest for spoiled, my way or the highway players and agents. Remember he didn't promise Reeves any guarantees. NIL or playing role. He doesn't give in to demands, and I for one applauded him. You notice we have been pretty drama and knucklehead player free. Wonder why? Cal doesn't let handlers and parents handle him.

Well, except for Sharpe. But that was like two whole weeks ago, so...
