Thin skinned? I’m not starting a poll to avoid trolls contaminating the thread. It’s a serious question that matters not but I’m bored. I was told this week by a few fans of two other programs ( won’t name the two programs as to avoid contamination from our end) that we are, in fact, thin skinned. The “most” thin skinned of the blue bloods.

My personal opinion is we’ve endured the short end so many times that it’s bred into our soul. How could we not be?

Is it fair to say that UK fans expect to be screwed over by the NCAA and its officials?

We are very thick-skinned to the outsiders but show chinks in our armor amongst ourselves (and trolls).

I’d say there are only three total programs that don’t actually have an inferiority complex;
- UK
- Duke
- U*NC

Those three believe they’re the best, for the most part.. while all other try to be that relevant.

If you’re referring to this board, of course. BBN as a whole I would say we are pretty thick skinned. We have quite a few 12 year olds in here that the minute someone disagrees with them or calls them out for saying something that is absurd, they run and tattle like little girls. If you get that triggered use the ignore feature. Those in real like can be thin skinned as well. I’m not sure why some take criticism some badly, I guess they were expecting who they were taking to to agree with them and when they don’t they are brought to tears. They need to grow a pair

I know there will be hell to pay for me doing this, but I can't help myself.
It's like the real world of politics, talking about the three big blue bloods.

Duke>>>what the liberals call "white privileged"; seems everything is easy for them, they do no wrong
UNC>>>got to be the Clintons of the basketball world; do anything you want, blame everyone else, get away with murder
UK>>>Trump, Trump, Trump; no matter what he says or does, the media eats his ***, people try anything to get him and just like a Timex, we both keep on ticking no matter what

You ask a fair question,I'll take a whack at an answer:

Back in the 50's and 60's the rest of the SEC didn't give 2 hoots about basketball. We could probably have beaten an all-star team comprised of players from the rest of the teams in the league most years. When there was a close game the refs of that time probably saw nothing wrong with helping the other team. Coach Rupp was not the most lovable sort and some refs just didn't like him.

Teams put dead skunks under our bench at away games, hung black wreaths on our basket if they managed to win a game.Being the other teams super bowl started way before Cal coined the phrase. The media did their part to make us the villains in 1966 and it stuck. We didn't deserve that role

In the Hall years the $50 or $100 handshakes by boosters didn't win many friends either, the Sutton years need no explanation. Pitino was Pitino,we got a reprieve with Tubby for a few years. Gillispie didn't matter and Cal is Coach Rupp 2.0 to the rest of the basketball world

All this to illustrate that people haven't liked us since at least the 50's,so if we are a little thin skinned it is because quite a bit of skin has been taken off over the years.

We don't get even breaks most of the time and aren't going to any time soon. As I see it we can call it what it is or we can pretend a bias doesn't exist. If that means we are thin skinned so be it.

I did the “gold” for the newer recruiting stuff on HOB.

I’m a cheap SOB but I’m not 60. It’s not that much.

We relish being the black hat, the rasslin heel and public enemy No. 1. We can back up arrogance with history. We've dealt with the accusations of racism and have been caught cheating. We still get called cheaters based on what happened in 88 even though we manned up and took our medicine and accepted the punishment unlike ... cough ... UNC.

On the negative side, we are prone to "eating our young" after a loss even if it's early in the season.

Personally attacking players and coaches after a loss and then hopping right back on the wagon after the next big win and then showing *** again at the next hint of adversity is the worst part about the UK fanbase, but I believe it to be a very vocal minority.

I would characterize it as anger or having an edge about us. We don’t enjoy the same luxuries as the other schools. UNC and Duke are elitist and get all the trappings that come with it. Kansas’ coach has kissed the *** of every media member that has more than 5 readers, and Indiana/UCLA...ha, yeah right—maybe 30 years ago.

This state is constantly mischaracterized, misunderstood, and overall unfairly **** on by media and others alike such as the NCAA. The University is coupled with this fact because of the name across the chest.

I wouldn’t say thin-skinned but I can see how others might think that. A chip on the shoulder that often seems like anger? I’d say something like that. Personally I like having that edge to us.

Everything is amplified on a high traffic message board. Pumpers, CLODS, trolls, and the thin skinned are going to chime in when their trigger is tripped. Some boards I look at, go back 2 days later and the threads haven't moved. This board turns a page of threads daily.

I wouldn’t expect Duke, North Carolina, or Kansas fans to understand what it feels like to get blatantly f**ked by the NCAA. They probably all think college basketball has no flaws whatsoever.

Yes. Yes, I’m thin skinned to when it comes to Kentucky sports. I hate losing and I barely talk after a loss. It gets better with age, but I have always been a ‘what if’ type feller. 2015 made me roll up my thin skin sleeves. And then the UNC game....I basically cut the sleeves off

If they are talking about coming on here and getting their butt handed to them, then possibly. But if its about games, we usually call it like we see it. I never understand fans coming here to troll or our fans going somewhere else to troll but hey UK fans can do what they want, lol.

I think the state as a whole has a built in inferiority complex due to stigma and stereotype, and the UK fan base looks for any reason to feel slighted.

I’m sometimes amazed at the ability to create slight out of the most innocent comments or situations.

I believe a lot of it has to do with our overall understanding of basketball as a fan base. Very few if any fan bases watch the game the way we do. Many of us focus on college basketball as a whole. We do not stay pigeonholed to watching just our team, but we see most every marquee game. It makes it much easier observe the overall bias. We also seek out information beyond what is spewed by ESPN talking heads. The fact is most fan bases do not realize the royal screw job the rest of the basketball world receives when compared to duke, unc, and Kansas. They do not see therefore they do not complain.

Well every time the media gets a chance to put a Ky person on tv, it’s always the most uneducated person, usually dirt poor, and no teeth! So the whole world thinks that is what Ky is!

That is the front runner contingent.

It isn't so much about being being thin skinned as just being unable to manage any level of disappointment and an unwillingness to cope with and work through adversity.

I just think they lack fight unless it is pounding the weak and they expect everyone to be competitively weak or think something is wrong.
They may also be thin skinned but it doesn't get to that point in the triage.
