I think the hopes would be that the SEC would follow suit and do the right thing. We’ll have to sit back and wait and see if that happens.

B1G putting rule in place to deny eligiblity to anyone who has declared for the NFL or been places on a roster.

No Graves
Maybe. If that rule is put in place I doubt that it would be retro active. Future Classes would be my guess.

Dumb on the B10s part, why put yourself at a competitive disadvantage unnecessarily? I get that you don’t want to set a precedent but this seems like an issue that can be tabled for future discussion.

Then the player sues them for monetary damages. Go to a jury trial.
How? The conference is under no authority from the courts to decide eligibility. That injunction only says they can seek another year of eligibility. It doesn't say any specific school has to grant that year. Regardless of all this judicial nonsense going on, the courts have zero authority to say this school must accept this player. Same thing goes for the conferences.

LOLZ Watch the SEC say hey Big Ten players we will let you play here.
Your going to see more and more going forward the B1G and the SEC doing things hand in hand. They have too much financially going forward being tied together. Lots of bigger topics involved. Number of teams in the playoffs, playing each other during the season. Much bigger decisions then worrying over a single player.

SEC Presidents issued a STRONGLY (cough) worded message to potential former NFL players stating that they shouldn't be allowed to play, but that they really, really, really want congress to act very soon on the pending legislation. It was the most feckless announcement I have ever seen.

These conference rules are toothless, any player who gets a TRO will be allowed to play.
We'll see. but I don't think so. "Allowed to play", but for who? These injunctions and court decisions only allow a player to gain an extra year. I don't believe they can force a conference or school to let any specific player return to a specific school.

Tech backed off the Sorsby situation because the B12 said no. They had the Texas attorney general on their side and didn’t even bother taking them to court on it. These are conference bylaws not the NCAA (monopoly) implanting a rule.

The players that are trying to come back aren't exactly world beaters though. Could they help in specific situations? Sure. But they also didn't crack an NFL roster so in the grand scheme of things they are just another guy.

Not making a 53 man nfl roster wouldn’t help a college team ? I think Graves vs Gaffney is a world beater in comparison.

Hard to know before the season happens. On potential? Sure. But potential doesn't directly translate to on field performance. Let's let all these respective old farts transition to their next phase of life.

And in the big picture, just how much is that really going to change the landscape of college football, really, IF it even happens. We're talking about guys who didn't make the cut, and maybe even make practice squads. How many game changers out of a handful of guys?

I think Bell, and Phil will come up with a solid 4 in the middle between. Hawthorne, Kennedy, Olagbaju (at 315lbs), Stevenson. Hubert, Gaffney, and Fitzgibbons. Practice interviews had high praise for Hawthorne, and Kennedy really showing out. Hubert got good snaps last year in rotation. Fitzgibbons is just in his second year, but he's stout and he's destroying all the DL lift records in camp. Not sure its all that bleak up front.

It’s a one time thing for the 22 class that didn’t get a fifth year, it won’t change the landscape, but it would help a few players and a few teams

saving the purity of amateur athletics seems to have some reflexively opposing the idea of 22 class players getting another year…..that ship has already sailed.

I think it is going to be exciting to see the front seven develop this season. There is a lot of talent that has been waiting to gain experience. I see this as a 2008 type season.

Ryan Downton, one of the attorneys representing players in the Louisiana case, tells
@YahooSports
that the NCAA should be held “in contempt of court for permitting conferences under its purview to blatantly violate court orders,” and he plans to file such a motion.

Good for him. The courts injunction says they should be allowed a 5th year. For the life of me I can't see how the courts can tell either the conference or a specific team that they have to allow these guys to play at any specific school. This is insanity. It would be NO different then a guy quitting his job, and going to work at another company. They decide they don't want him, and then a court decides that his previous employer MUST take him back. Its lunacy.

I agree, and frankly we have a bunch of guys on the DL, LB's, DB's, and OL who have been in the program for three years now. Its their time to get their shot.....
