Rock solid, bone jarring D travels and translates at home and on the road, without it you get beat no matter how good your offense is.
Functional offenses are great, but rebuilds start with defense

I agree that good defense is vital to winning football. Usually the championship level teams rank high in the defensive national statistics. However, with the way football is played today with spread offenses, even very good defenses get torched from time to time. The biggest issue to me in the RU/KSU game was the speed differential between the KSU skill players and RU’s defenders. The KSU HC said their plan was to get the RU LBs and DBs to play in space. They thought they had a big advantage there and it was apparent.

The KSU HC said the RU Secondary was slow and he would take advantage. Which they did…just like UCLA, USC, Wisconsin, etc. did. A rebuilding of the D is a priority.
