Iowa +24.5

If Iowa (10-1) is going to seriously threaten UConn (11-0) and make this uncomfortable for the Huskies, Stuelke is going to be right in the middle of it. Ava will likely deal with foul trouble so Hannah needs to step up and win consistently inside. Without that, Iowa is in for a long afternoon.

Either way, UConn is too much for this Hawkeye squad and should win 94-69.

I think Iowa has a shot (better than the 9% ESPN gives the Hawks) to win today and here is why:

#1 UConn hosted #6 Michigan on Nov 21; announced attendance was 6,312.

In UConn's 72-69 win over the #6 Wolverines:
* The UConn starters played 170 of the 200 minutes (85%).

* The UConn starters scored 67 of the 72 points (93%).

* Azzi Fudd with 31 pts & Sarah Strong with 16 pts unsurprisingly led the way.

Overall, UConn shot just 38% from the field vs Michigan.

* 10-30 (33%) from three
* 16-39 (41%) from inside the arc
__________________________________
* 26-69 (38%) Overall Shooting
* 10-11 (91%) from the FT line

That is 43 missed FGs by the Huskies vs Michigan. Iowa needs to block out & rebound those missed shots.

UConn committed 17 turnovers vs Michigan, which is WAY TOO MANY (ideally, you want to commit no more than 11 or 12 in a game);
maybe Iowa can take advantage of this. Michigan committed 14 turnovers.

IOWA needs to defend Strong & Fudd as best they can and force the other 3 starters to beat them.

And Iowa really needs to defend the 3 when it comes to Fudd (52.9% from 3) & Strong (37.8% from 3).

UConn's Starting 5, who will likely see most of the 200 minutes available:

...................................................Pts...Rebs..FG%.....3P%....FT%...Assts...Stl....Blk
Sarah Strong,,........6'2" F,..17.9,...8.5,...59.4,.....37.8,....86.2,.....4.6,...3.3,....2.0
Serah Williams,......6'4" F,...7.6,....4.9,...55.1,.......0.0,....57.1,......1.7,...0.8,...1.0
Ashlynn Shade,,..5'10" G,...7.8,....3.1,...38.4,.....34.1,....71.4,......2.6,...1.5,...0.0
KK Arnold,,.............5'9" G,....6.7,....2.7,...54.7,.....26.7,....75.0,......4.5,...2.4,...0.0
Azzi Fudd,,............5'11" G,...17.7,....3.0,...50.0,.....52.9,..100.0,.....3.0,...2.2,....0.5

ESPN gives IOWA a 9% chance of winning today. :rolleyes: o_O

UConn and Iowa team stat comparisons -

Very comparable here:

Team FG% - UConn 50.9% [#7 in the country]; Iowa 50.5% [#10 in country]
Team FG% Defenses - UConn 33.1% [#11 in country; Iowa 34.8% [#27 in country]

Big difference here:

Rebounds Per Game - Iowa 44.6/game [16th]; UConn - 41.1 [61st]
Rebound Margin - Iowa 13.9/game [7th]; Uconn 8.7 [41st]
Turnovers Forced - UConn 23.3/game [14th]; Iowa 16.5/game [#208]
Turnover Margin - Uconn 11/game [#6]; Iowa 2.2/game [#127]
Steals - UConn 14.5/game [#10]; Iowa 9.2/game #135

Surprising:

UConn only averages 13.7 freethrow attempts per game [#312]; Iowa averages 18.8 attempts/game.

All and all, UConn forces turnovers and holds opponents to a very low field goal percentage. And, UConn has a few lotter-pick offensive stars.
Iowa is a great rebounding team and hits a high % from the field - mostly around the basket.

Obviously advantage UConn, but we can pound them inside. Also, like it or not, we need Sremlow, Deal, and Houston on the court - [turn them loose!]. UConn's starters play a lot of minutes, so we should "attempt" to wear them down.

We can’t play the senior guards like this. UConn is just too athletic. Let Deal and Stremlow and Houston get a lot of minutes.

This game just showing how far we are from competing from the top. Looks like a junior high team playing against the high school team.

Just goes to show what we already knew. CC was truly a generational talent.

We aren’t a top 11 team either.

I think we’ll end up around 25-30th by end of season.
