Ben said in his radio interview that he needed to do a better job of preparing these guys. He probably said it 3 times. Bobby asked why they didn’t run some of the plays they practiced. He said the Ole Miss game, with all their switches, sort of threw the team off in this game. Bobby and Gary were surprised Hausen didn’t play the second half.
Well, one bad game doesn’t define a team or a season. Let’s hope they play A LOT better on Saturday!

Actually the best Izzo team we’ve seen in awhile. Maybe not great but they are damn good. Look who they have already beaten this year.

It did, but there's a lot to learn from this game. We'll get to see just how good of a coach we have. I know this team is good. I feel like they can compete with most teams athletically. But there is a mental aspect that I don't think they have yet to grind through those teams. But that's why you play these games because you will never develop it if you don't play the games. Hopefully they can do it quickly. I've seen it happen before so it is possible.

Spartans front court seemed a LOT bigger than Iowa. Like 3 or 4 inches taller at every position. Yet Jaxon Kohler and Cam Manyawu are both listed at 6’9”. I think someone’s measurements are off!

That's going to happen many times in the Big Ten this year for this Iowa team. They're going to to get killed on the boards and John Wooden himself couldn't fix it. It is what it is, just fix it moving forward.

I'm meant the IU game in football. He was fine tonight. There was not much positive after the first 5 mins. PB is a good guy and great announcer.

This has been a problem for last few games. Too many guys watching right now. Playing Banks, manyawu and Combs togethher puts a lot of pressure on Stirtz. I think Haussen needs to probably play more and Folgueiras needs to play better.

Yep. Not going to get stressed out after just one game against a good team in a hostile environment.

It's just the first of twenty games. If Iowa loses to Michigan St, Illinois, Purdue twice, Michigan, and Iowa St, that's only 6 loses, all the other teams in the Big Ten are all winnable. If Iowa had any other head coach than Ben, I'd worry more, but since he's won 82% of his games in his 16 years as a head coach, I think he knows what he's doing. So no it's not that HUGE of a game. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to win it in the end.

For sure. Stirtz had a rough game. But most nights he will be the best player in the tourney. We will get there and let's see how it goes. Haters wanted a PG. Let's roll.

So far this season, the Hawks have taken care of business against the pipsqueaks and beat the more capable, tournament bound teams with strong defense. During his post game interview, I was surprised how many times BMC brought up the Ole Miss game. He kept saying something along the lines of how it messed up our offense. A little strange, honestly. Whatever the issue is, I hope that tonight was a wake up call to this team on what they need to improve on. Need to come out strong and thump Maryland on Saturday.

I agree. Learn from it and come out strong. As another poster mentioned on here earlier, our goal is to make the tourney. If that happens, then we can move the goal post a little upward. One game at a time. Better to assess this team's potential after a sample size of say, five conference games.

Ben does not gush over how good MSU was, just pointing at him and his team.

SA used to get hammered by fans for pointing out the players faults.

Fran never singled out players for criticism.

Dr Tom was a players coach.

Never offended me really when coaches get analytical to explain where we fell short.

Just interesting that the hangover from a win over Ole Miss would screw us up a week later.

Cmon. What exactly is Stirtz going to do by himself? We have some decent players. Mostly mid majors playing their first B1G game on the road against the team that has the biggest home court advantage in the league, and this is Izzo's best team in years. Their a top 5-10 team. Even if Stirtz is all that, they still probably have 10 of the top 12 guys between the two rosters

I think you are underrating the players as mostly mid majors, and Stirtz is regarded as a 10 to 20 pick in the draft. MSU is really good and east Lansing is one of the hardest places to play, but that doesn’t mean he just didn’t seem to be himself with the missed free throws and turnovers. With that being said, we lose that game 9 out of 10 times, regardless of how Stirtz played.

Exactly.Lots of good open shots early that rimmed out would have made a huge difference- Make 80 percent of FT and we are in the game. No panic here, we are a bit undersized but I like our defensive intensity and ability to create turnovers.

No surprise to me that this team was going to struggle against the best teams in the B1G. Ben did an excellent job putting together a team almost from scratch, but there are obvious holes.

It's the very beginning of a rebuild. They may not make the Dance. If they don't, I'll still be happy to move on from Fran.
