Tony looks like he’s getting up and down the court a lot better. I like that he’s attacking the rim too instead of settling for jumpers

Very balanced scoring-wise in the first half. Dix with 5 assists as well! Going to need Rebraca and Kris to help bring us home!

If the Hawks keep attacking the hoop, Maryland will keep fouling. Don’t start forcing jumpers and stick with what’s been working

Patrick McCaffery will be back Wednesday !
I’m glad Patrick is taking time away for mental health but no one is willing to discuss that Iowa lost 5 of their last 7 before his leave of absence and is 4-0 without PMac.

Yeah, yeah a couple close games that went Iowas way but Iowa defends better and the ball moves more smoothly lately.
He deserves 15 minutes a game but nothing more at this point.

Unlike so many I do trust Coach to make decisions about who should start and how many minutes a player gets. I figure he sees them in practice every day. A lot of folks never see these guys in person.

yea... when Iowa was losing games... it was NOT because of a single player.
Patrick McCaffery is a great basketball player and will be a welcomed sight to have him back in uniform playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

people bashing Patrick McCaffery should be ashamed.

Patrick has had some ups and downs just like every player who has played the game. Heck, even Seth Curry capable of going 2-13 from three.

Pmac needs to be a role player off the bench. He is 6-9, not very mobile, doesn’t rebound, avoids contact on drives, he’s just not a starter and should have limited minutes. He could play a huge role but if he doesn’t accept that it’s better if he doesn’t play.

imo the results speak for themselves. 4-0 with him out of the line-up.
Just wildly inconsistent. Plays zero defense and has a tendency to force stuff that isn’t there .
He’ll get some minutes but I’d be pretty upset if he takes minutes from guys who have been stepping up recently .

Great game by Perkins and Sandfort. Kris, Connor, and Ulis hit some timely shots to stem runs by MD. Perkins is best suited to play the game he showcased yesterday--be aggressive, penetrate to break the defense down and look to score or kick. Perkins will make the occasional 3 but that's not his comparative advantage / better options to shoot 3's. I think the only chance Iowa has to make the NCAA tournament is if Perkins can be consistent with his play as it affects so many other aspects of the game and gives the team scoring options beyond 3-pointers.

As far as Pmac, the record without him is what it is. I suspect Fran will put him back in the starting lineup but as others have posted, I think he should come off the bench. It will take some pressure off of him and play to what he does well which is give maximum effort in short bursts in the press and transition. I like him more as a spot up shooter and less as a dribble drive guy because his shot selection is still suspect and Kris, Tony, Ulis, and Sandort are better off the bounce.

That's the Tony Perkins Iowa needs, and that's the one we've seen flashes of, especially late last season. When Perkins plays like that, Iowa is an especially dangerous team. And don't overlook the fact that Iowa led by 10 at the half with virtually no contributions from either Rebraca or Murray. The rest of the guys, led by Tony P, stepped up once again and took care of business. The last four games, these Hawkeyes have been more than the sum of their parts, and that's what makes a winning streak. I would agree with those who say PMac's return is good for this team, but he should be coming off the bench the rest of the season. PMac's return adds depth and versatility, but 4-0 without him makes it clear his role should be as a spark off the bench. Let's hope his return is seamless and that this team continues to improve and win with a new hero every time out.

And give Ulis credit for hitting some big shots and generally playing well too. He and Perkins definitely played their best games of the year. With Ulis and Perkins playing at the level of last night, the Hawkeyes are a vastly better team.

I like the way the Hawks are playing right now. They seem to have found a rhythm. It will be nice to have Patrick back, but I agree with those who say he should be a role player off the bench.

Northwestern has had a good season so far, but I'm not convinced yet that they are an upper tier Big 10 team. I think the Hawks will be at them on Wednesday. Hopefully Carver is packed and loud!

Sounds like Iowa disputed Gary Dolphin's assertion that PMac was playing on Wednesday. Who knows, maybe he will play but Fran probably not happy that Dolphin was saying that in post game.

The biggest thing that has happened with him out is that Dix and Sandfordt know they are going to get regular minutes. It is easier to play when you know you are going to play. It's up to Fran on how to re-integrate another player in the rotation. It's always good to have another good player available. Will be a tricky situation for Fran.

well... Dolph said that Patrick told him, during the break, that he was going to be back on Wednesday.
so... I don't think Dolph lied.

One positive about this whole scenario is the vast majority of fans have been very supportive of Patrick and Iowa bb during this time. Of course there are always a few who just cannot stop their critiques. Patrick has made a number of blocks during his career. I wonder if this is a good example of his "zero defense"?

I don't dispute that whatsoever. Just probably that Fran wanted any news on that coming from him or the SID, not Dolph.

yea, I understand.. but Patrick is the one who is making the decision... and Patrick is the one who told Dolph... so.. this thing is on Patrick... not Dolph
