*****Iowa vs Illinois NCAAT Game Thread*****

That played professionally in Europe.

If that's the case then they need to look at the rule.

[HoggI74]

Brad and ref having a good laugh together...

[Rambler Hawk]

I REALLY HOPE that Duke comes out of the East, because ILL won't have the refs on their side.

Would love to see Duke trash them by 50+.

Duke or UConn will take them down…

[MAKhawks]

Don't know if you noticed but they are all professionals now.

Not with contracts beyond scholarships

Game is over

[Demger]

foul. right. away.

[Franisdaman]

We have been stuck on 59 for a long time

[LetsGoHawks83]

Why so long to foul there Howard?

[HawkeyeGenius]

If that's the case then they need to look at the rule.

These guys are being ruled eligible now. Nothing that can be done. Ten years ago, no way.

[JohnBeckwith]

Fun season. Hard to win a game with 3 players constantly on the floor that cant contribute offensively. Proud of what these guys did this year. What a fucxking ride.

[longliveCS40]

foul. right. away.

Not even the presence of mine to do that. Just a total collapse mentally late in this game by the whole team.

[hawkeyewx]

It was all downhill when Iowa got their 7th foul.

[Tenacious E_rivals41982]

Well boys, it was a great run. Future is bright. Need a couple of bangers in the paint and a new point guard.

[Franisdaman]

The Illini likely get DUKE next.

I hope the ILLINI fans enjoy the "Duke whistle."

Can’t have it.

[Grayhair1981]

You know what we mean. 10 years ago, you play guys like that and you'd forfeit your whole season.

And it isn't ten years ago. It is legal now and everyone is doing it

[DuddyB]

Officiating was one sided but our lack of rebounding was the reason we lost.

[longliveCS40]

Let's pass it 17 times on offense down 10 under a minute. Just brain dead basketball. Your only shot is to fire immediately.

[HawkeyeGenius]

And it's ruined college sports

[hawkeyewx]

Stirtz was hot in the first half, but has hardly shot any threes in the second half.

Duke is beatable. We could have beaten them...

[EvilMonkeyInTheCloset]

It's just put their head down and drive every time and for some reason we can't figure that out. It is literally the only thing they do.

We slide up to help from the baseline too early. Beat them to a stop and let them come to us.

That narrows the windows to dump it inside and forces them to make a tough split second decision to force a tough layup or pass it in a smaller windows.

They struggled with that against Nebraska and Florida as well, but it didn't bite us in those games.

[MAKhawks]

If that's the case then they need to look at the rule.

There are no rules. The NCAA is a joke that gets their asses handed to them in every court case they’ve fought. The NCAA is awful.

[HawkBall23]

As pissed off at officiating we are tonight, that doesn't take away that this team still won 3 more games than MOST expected in this tournament.

1st year, middling conference finish with a middling conference roster, but an Elite8 run in the Tournament.

Couldn't be happier with Ben McCollum as coach, and Beth for hiring him.

[jwgohawks]

Well, this was frustrating. Great season. Got to wonder why Alvaro in the doghouse second half.

[Rambler Hawk]

Why we decided not to shoot threes here late is a mystery. You were never going to score inside with Banks and Manyawu. They've shown that this game.

Terrible gameplan on offense and awful defense allowing dribble drives has been the difference.

[Grayhair1981]

"NIL" is pay-for-play. This is professional sports. Period

Can't let players drive to the basket with their strong hand, whether it's MS, HS, or college!

[DrVenkman]

Great season for Iowa. Congrats to Coach Ben and the team. What a run. Hope he makes it a habit.

[Jonesy5960]

Well it was a hellluva run. Some nice pieces coming back next year. Sage is going to be Iowa's next All American

[longliveCS40]

Fantastic season, Boyz! What a run!

[HoggI74]

Welp the better team won. So be it...

Nailed it!

Wow it’s been 21 long years for Illanoiovich….can’t imagine how long their fans have waited for this

[MAKhawks]

Any team is a scary team when you’re allowed to play by two different sets of rules.

[Hawkfan_08*]

My 7 year old daughter is crying, bawling, at this loss. The boys got her to care about sports.

[Demger]

Van Gundy is headed to the showers with the entire Illini roster.

[Amahawk]

Great effort and great season guys! Keep your heads up!

[HawkBall23]

Lack of fundamentals, I'm guessing.

Let the ball get taken from behind, flat-footed on defense and rebounding, etc.

[JohnBeckwith]

Hell of a season. What a ride them boys gave us. They played their hearts out.
