The stats show Stuelke, McCabe, and Feuerbach were on the floor together for about 85% of the game. It's very easy for opponents to shut down those three. In fact, there are large areas of the court where you don't even need to guard them.

If Jan is not going to rely on our bench, it's going to be a long season.

Stremlow - where was she???

Having Feurbach, Stuelke, and McCabe all on the floor together is just a huge offensive challenge, and especially when Heiden had to sit. Hopefully Jan can figure it ou
This is so true. Exclude McCabe. She is steady and solid. But she is the by product of Jan's conservative approach. Short leashes.
MaCabe is doing great. Just remember last year when we could not score and lost 4 or winnable games in our slump. We can already
see that could repeat.

As said in these posts .... our ceiling could depend on our youth.
Its time!!!!

NEED ADDIE DEAL. NEED EMELY RODRIGUEZ. Stremow and Levin.

Take the training the wheels off. Sure we might see some ugly games but i believe we will still win.
We can have runs of Kylie 2 points or 4. These young GUNS can play and score,. and they are ELECTRIC. Crowd favorites

NO MORE SHORT LEASHES. LET THEM PLAY.

Just look at MICHIGAN

For starters you double team her front and back and deny her the ball.
Absolutely. Let someone else beat you. Or what happened to our 1-3-1 that we played against Baylor? Why were we determined to only play man to man when we had no chance against Crooks?
How about having guards drive to the basket forcing her to defend them and drawing fouls on her?
two on people she wasn't guarding, and both her and hayes bit on pump fakes by crooks.

I think the simplest answer is Feurbach seeing less time. McCabe needs to be the “3 & D” player and guard the other teams best guard like Feurbach does. Feurbach is athletic but isn’t a great shooter and drives into trouble way to often. She’s good at getting into the lane but has no plan once there, not a good passer and not a good finisher.
Play Stremlow and Deal more.
This should have been a good learning experience for the team and coaches…hopefully

After the UConn game, there's potential for a long winning streak.

Agree that the newbies need way more minutes.

Did I miss something, are we on a major losing streak or just got upset by a nobody team last night, everyone acting like this was a win all end all game. The bottom line is as much as I hate to admit the clowns are a really good team especially if they can hit outside shots because Crooks herself is tough inside, their is a reason Iowa recruited her hard and that showed last night. I was skeptical her game would transition to a major college game just with the speed of the game but they do a good job of pace for her both offensively and defensively. If you watched the game they don't crash the boards from the outside as most of their players are bailing back after the shot to prevent teams from getting up and running allowing Crooks to get back on D and offensively everything runs thru her just like when Iowa had MC and MG as post players feeding them the ball. Iowa has a really good team only loss to a top 10 team on the road for the first time this year in a hostile environment, plus owns a win vs #13 Baylor on neutral court its a long season just relax. I will be interested to see how the clowns match up with Baylor as they have taller athletic bigs that I think will give crooks a tougher time as I thought they were a very physical team inside when we played them. Now people saying Jan needs to coach better or play different players, out coached I don't think so but I do think she AND THE STAFF needs to utilize Houston more as I think she is a scrapper that just has a nose for the ball. I get her playing the 3 seniors as that's what 95% of coaches would do because you trust them in big games as you have seen them handle the pressure in big games and as the season continues the younger players like Houston, Deal and yes Emily Rod will see more and more minutes in crucial situations. And one last thing for those that were down on ER, this is the type of player Iowa needs, and needs to recruit more of because she is not afraid to take it off the dribble to score. Yes she had a game with multiple turnovers and that comes with being aggressive as I remember many games CC had multiple turnovers in a game and still did her rookie year in the WNBA, the point is you don't take that aggressiveness out of the player because they will win you a game when you need it and right now Iowa only has one of those players in Chit Chat that can take it past people. If fans will be patient then I think you can add ER and AD in the same group as chit chat as far as guards who can beat people to create their own shot. We are 9-1 cheer up because its a long season of ups and downs.

Oh how quickly we’ve become a fanbase just happy to be “in it until the end.”

We’re getting our asses sent to the losers lane by Iowa State in all major sports….

Expectations have plummeted.
Ya know, just because someone isn't crying and whining doesn't mean they're happy. Nobody is "happy" because they lost, but I don't care that the loss was to ISU any more than I would be had it happened vs any other highly ranked team. My expectation for this team is still a deep run this spring. What are your expectations?

Come to think of it, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the same dude that comes on here to whine and complain about women's basketball when the Hawks win? If that's true, then you're just a real ray of sunshine is what you are.

Considering it was #11 vs #10 (basically even), I can’t imagine being “proud” because “we were in it until the end.”

Come on now.

And women’s basketball is a terrible product in general. There is no less than 5 airballs or near-airballs inside 10 feet per contest. HS couldn’t hit water from a boat - How does that happen!? She is 6’2”!

How many times did HS get a pass at the top of the key with her back to the basket and stand still waiting for someone to come get the ball?

I lost count. Her rebound total makes it look like she had a decent game.
She didn't. Her minutes should be halved.

She played like a terrified freshman.
Houston has way more upside. We know what Steulke's ceiling is.
You claim KF and McCabe are one dimensional. What is HS?
She's barely >50% on FTs.
I agree and it is beyond me how a player her entire life (HS) cannot shoot the ball properly with various coaches over the years. JJ making her captain was a mistake IMO she lacks leadership qualities, intensity, and confidence. She is an effective rebounder, defense, and runs the court.

Proud? No. Happy? No. Did I think they'd run through the season undefeated? No. Would I feel worse about their chances to make some tournament noise had they been run out of the gym? Absolutely. Did this game's outcome change my expectations for the season? Absolutely not.

The world isn't binary and every loss isn't the end of the world or even a significant event in a season.

I dunno, i think they have a pretty slim to none chance of beating any of the top 5 teams in the BIG........

I don't see things that way at all. Given that opinion would you like to place a wager that they will or won't end up beating a top 5 Big10 team or end up as a top 5 B1G team? How about $100?

my only concern here was the loose balls that isu had no business getting to, we went to slow and they were all out effort diving.
Honestly if I was to pick out one thing that the team should be roundly criticized for it is that. Watching the ball bounce around on the floor with little effort while an ISU player chases it down. That was disappointing to see.

They're going to struggle on the road vs average teams as well if Iowa doesn't get some senior leadership.

Maybe they issue is JJ doesn't have what Bluder had...a capable asst?
I mean,we saw it in the Baylor or Miami game when we had fouls to give at the end of a quarter and Iowa gives up a drive to the hoop from the top of the key with 3 seconds left.

Wow, a whole lot of hate on this girl because she's big. Is this what the Iowa fanbase has become. Quite embarrassing really.
It's easy to hate on her when she's shoving and bullying her way. And her attitude has a lot to be desired imo

I probably won't mind if she played for iowa though 😯

Hannah is the Glen Worley of Iowa women's basketball. She's good for some flashes but she not a consistent threat.
Omg that’s a perfect comparison

they are players that could score 30 or 3 points and neither can/could shoot.

Yes, we also have petty fans who get even more petty after we lose. Same with Iowa State fans, except they migrate with their pettiness from Cyclone Fanatic on over to Twitter to not just be petty about players like Caitlin Clark, but to also gaslight Iowa fans and put words in our mouths to make us look bad.

But yes, only be embarrassed with Iowa fans...............

I dunno about that. Iowa's guards had a huge statistical advantage over ISU's last night. The talent difference inside was huge with Ava's foul troubles. If she's not in the lineup Iowa doesn't really have an offensive threat down low. She's arguably the most important player on the team and one of the best forwards in the B1G. Crooks was completely overmatched in the few minutes she was in there and embarrassed her on that one spin move when Crooks hit the floor. The problem was she barely played and Iowa's front court was outscored 57-25.

You really think Houston is better than her right now? And really my post about hating on Stuelke wasn’t directed at you directly but cmon, you’re a way better poster than that.
Well she might be playing better right now. She's certainly much more dynamic offensively and is actually rebounding at a higher rate so far this year. The only problem is that she's only 5'11 and is going to struggle guarding much bigger players down low, but statistically she's equal or better in nearly every way.

Did some of you not see Stremlow and Deal in last night's game? They were pretty awful. If Iowa was going to hang with ISU last night, it wasn't going to be with the bench players. Just wasn't happening last night.

Awful shooting isn't going to win many games, and that was pretty much everyone last night, but cool heads are needed if you are going to find a way back in it after going down by 17 in the second half.

Everyone shot awful??? Better check the box score. That couldn't be further from the truth. The team shot almost 40% from 3. Only Hannah and Deal had bad shooting nights. The rest were fine or didn't shoot enough to matter.
