The Cyclones are down to 16 players on the roster not in the portal or decommitted. I know Rhule said B12 players aren't good enough to play for him but Nebraska should be looking at these guys, lots of local guys and starters.

Iowa State is better then Nebraska last I checked. Sad but true. Been that way for a long time unfortunately.
Last I checked lately they’ve been better than the Clarkeyes too.
This is what I have been saying.
Franklin might not have been a great coach (still really good though) but he brought in amazing talent.
PSU is going to start losing to a lot of teams because they won't be able to out-talent them.
And this precisely why Nebraska gave a raise to Rhule. As bad as he is, if he left right now, even to a middling team, our roster would be completely gutted and we would be scrambling to find anybody to field a team for next year. Just another way that college football is acting like a sinking ship.
Hmm, think 16 is an exaggeration. They have 42 players in the portal so math would tell you they have more than 58 players on their roster. I would guess a handful return to ISU after meeting with the new coach and negotiating a higher NIL payout. Perhaps.
Besides the TE Brahmer wouldn’t mind seeing the Huskers end up with Carson Hansen/Rb, who’s proved to be a physical, hard runner with decent numbers.
I like Neal the S and Sowart(sp)WR as well but not thinking HCMR considers either based on need.

Your "math" isn't accounting for players that are now out of eligibility...you know, last season's seniors.

Yea, well we're worse than both sadly. All I care about. Were irrelevant in the College football landscape and every shot we get to make an impact amd get a big win we shoot down our leg. We have the talent Iowa State does. Whats that leave as the problem?

Can you tell us what "middling team" Rhule was going to accept an offer from if NU didn't throw him another $20+ million?
I mean lots of teams have coaches under contract where their total annual comp hits $12.5MM.

Two of those dont fit and one of those two is a complete outlier. Middling teams are lined up to pay out the @$$ for Rhule, obviously.
Your numbers are ********, he is about 15th in total compensation...and was lower before he was extended. Before the extension it was conceivable that team that TCU, or Pittsburg, Arkansas, Kansas could pay him similar to Nebraska without the pressure. I think the Pitt Job at 7.5 million, and AD who supports you, little pressure, and not playing Indiana, OSU, Oregon in the same season probably was sounding pretty good. Keep in mind that Dannon didn't hire him, and letting Rhule coach without any extension is basically saying to any coach or recruit that he is a lame duck and Dannon is just looking for the next coach. In theory, that is what should happen, but in practice there were over a dozen power four openings, including multiples teams that had just played in the playoffs. We weren't getting top choice. So leaving Rhule, known for jumping ship, as a lame duck, with a salary that would be only top 30 by the start of next year was a recipe for him to leave, and take whatever talent we have with him. While then scrambling to get maybe the 15th best option available on the market, with no time to recruit. Also keep in mind that Nebraska has had some of the worst buyouts in the sport over the last 10 years, and isn't seeing a huge donor base, and there isn't a ton of excitement around the program. Rhule should never have been hired, and should have been fired after last year...his decision making and awareness of college football is just bad, but I think there is worse.

His buyout from another team was very low and they could offer him a contract until 2032...it is the same reason Kyle Tucker is going get an ELEVEN YEAR contract when he is already 29...it doesn't make any sense but it is leverage. He was a lame duck without the extension...would I be happy if Rhule was fired right now and we had some random coach from Montana or something. Sure, it would be entertaining, but I understand why the extension was done.
Well I guess if you convinced yourself that Penn State was serious about hiring Rhule, it's not a huge leap to start fretting about him jumping to Kansas.
Rhule's agent probably reads our fan message boards and just laughs his a$$ off on a daily basis.

So his entire life all he has known is losing. And a school/fan base that is okay with it.
You can't compare future compensation because all 14-20 coaches ahead of him are going to be extended or get better jobs in the next few years. I agree he has been overpaid the entire time because we haven't been a top 25 team, but he was barely top 30 in pay before the extension. I dreaded the extension, hated it, but I understand it.
That extension was insane. I’m willing to ride with Rhule for a couple more years but that extension was a poor financial decision. Can you imagine Cuban giving out that to one of his executives? Trump would have fired Rhule as he walked off the field in Minnesota.
There isn't a big difference between Nebraska and Kansas right now. You guys under play the fact that Trev left Rhule out to dry. ADs and coaches go down together, that is the deal. But Trev up and left almost immediately, this meant that Rhule was just waiting for Dannon to hire "his guy". Without an extension it would almost be a guarantee that Rhule would look around, rather than be fired. Especially because the season was going ok, and next year is looking to be a massacre. If Rhule could get similar money, but an extra two years, and an AD that wants him, it would be worth going someplace "inferior" to Nebraska. The extension made that moot, donors can move ahead and give their money freely, players and coaches can come to Nebraska knowing that Rhule we be here for at least a couple more years.
Well I guess if you're willing to play Santa Claus to the tune of $22 million to stop Rhule from (gasp!!!) looking around, there's not much left to debate.

If that's the mindset, I would expect Rhule's overachieving agent to continue to take NU for a ride at every possible opportunity.
