Purdue, like most not-good teams has trouble finishing, though. We'll see if they finish today...
at this point I dont realistically see a scenario where Iowa is picked "ahead" of Northwestern where a choice would be in question. Sparty is still probably in the conversation, with a win over UMD and then Rutgers next week, but our shut out today along with a potential seven game winning streak and a solid Top 25 ranking could put us in a conversation about San Diego after all, especially if Michigan loses ugly to Ohio State next week, which is a legit possibility.

Ferentz killed any chance of tying the game by turning it into a two possession game with one minute left. It was completely harebrained.

I get the strategy but if they would've converted on the two, at home, the crowd would've been in it big time and PU is not a world-beater this year. As a coach I would have followed conventional wisdom, but I don't think the Ferentz call was as atrocious as everyone is making it out to be.

I was mulling that one too. Defies conventional wisdom of playing for OT when you are at home. Or maybe they felt that had the perfect play call for the conversion attempt.Unless he felt it gave them a chance for the win in regulation.
Ultimately the best strategy is to keep yourself alive. Pursue the highest probability play that gives you another chance by getting you to the next step:
1. Kick the PAT - high probability
2. Recover inside kick - low probability
3. Score TD in 50 seconds - low
4. Convert 2 PAT - about 40%
