Definitely noticed it in Hawaii that people are much thinner. That was striking to me after a few days I was like, "You know, I haven't seen a single really fat person the whole time we've been here." Unless you count the lady who flew in with us and needed a seatbelt extender. I got clocked in the shoulder all flight by people walking around the part of her that was hanging into the aisle opposite me.
I notice it even being downtown in Chicago, it's like the further into the heart of the city you go the thinner people get. Just living in an urban center like that where you have to do more walking can make more of a difference than you think. When you walk to the store and carry your groceries all the way home not only do you get the exercise, but you think a lot more about how much **** you buy because you have to haul it back.
Just that little change will shift you from buying a trunkload of groceries to buying enough for a few meals and not keeping a bunch of junk in the house. All because it's expensive and inconvenient to park a car down there.
Out here in the burbs it's just like Omaha, sprawl and gigantic parking lots. Park your fat *** 30 feet from the door and waddle on in. There's no "ambient exercise," you drive door to door everywhere. You only exercise if you schedule it on purpose.
My favorite is people who will camp out waiting for somebody to pull out of a close parking space in a massive lot with nothing but empty spots at the back. Followed closely by people in my office who will take the elevator down to go home. We work on the second floor.
