Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Iowa wrestling fans.

I come bearing gifts better than frankincense and myrrh. And the only thing I can think of that is better than them is Iowa NCAA Tournament history.
  • Iowa won has been there from the start, winning 3 matches at the inaugural event in 1928, and has one at least 1 match every year since 1968 (the longest active streak).
  • Along the way Iowa has picked up 1,948 victories, placing them second on the all-time list behind only Oklahoma State's (2,395). Trailing Iowa, and unlikely to catch them in my lifetime, are Iowa State (1,687), Oklahoma (1,583), and Penn State (1,510).

Iowa has long been a bonus point monster at the NCAA tournament.

Below are the Iowa top 10 (and ties) all-time leaders in majors, techs, pinfalls, and bonus points (normalized for today's scoring rules) along with their overall rank in NCAA tournament history.

Who here is old enough to remember Terry McCann?
