In Big Ten games, Iowa is allowing 108.9 points per 100 possessions, worst in the conference. Rutgers is 13th at 108.0 points per 100.

Any team that consistently scores more than 70 points is a difficult match up for Rutgers.

This tells me we should play zone defense almost exclusively, the way Iowa does. Why? Because we are virtually tied with them for the worst scoring defense in the league yet they are ranked as a Top 20 team based on their ability to score.

My thinking is that by playing zone they save their legs and energy for more offensive production. We actually have guys who can shoot and who can score, but we may be burning them out too much on the defensive end which is hurting their offense.

The next 2 games we obviously want to win., but let's see if we can get back to playing D.

But we do. Stats would be different if teams weren't good at certain things.

Interesting take. It’s possible. So let’s go zone a little more and see what happens.

when I played basketball coming up, I can remember having to take a couple of possessions on offense before being able to figure out exactly what the defense was running.

If you can effectively switch defensive looks and keep the offense honest, you can influence the pace of the game and create turnovers. I’d like to see that as the next phase of our progression.

Michigan was able to play at a crazy fast pace at times and we weren’t even to take the flow of the game into our own hands
