Internet and cord cutting

I’m taking my first steps to cutting the cord and for me that is changing to Cspire Internet. I have been afraid that streaming would suck with my current internet service, att U-verse. Today I had enough and ordered Cspire and it will be installed on Monday. My first question what is the best router for the money? Second question who is your favorite streaming service? It seems like the last time it was discussed here the majority were using YouTube. Any recent important changes to streaming?

I stream with 1000 MBPS U-Verse and it works just fine.

I used PSVue and loved it. They stopped providing.

I now use YouTubeTV and it's pretty solid, also.

Stream YouTube Tv through Apple TV, Chromecast, Xbox and built in tv app

Also have Netflix and Prime

We've got comcast, which I think is either 60 or 100 mbps. We regularly have three or four things going at a time - Hulu, youtube, xbox online game, etc. Never have any problems.

Only issue I've got with hulu is on my roku tv. It wants me to log in almost daily, which is just annoying. I've noticed online other people complaining - apparently it's an issue with the hulu app specifically on roku tvs. I've bookmarked the hulu activate page on my phone.

edit: router depends on how much you want to spend, but I'd go for something with good range. I've got a tplink ac1900 that was less than $100 but doesn't cover my whole house. No other problems with it, but annoying because in some areas of my house I can pick up my neighbors wifi better than mine. I'd say go ahead and plan to spend about $200 if you need a large coverage area.

Count me in as another YoutubeTVer. Will never look back at the outrageous price we were paying for U-verse. I have two fire sticks and a roku. I prefer the fire sticks because the roku loses connectivity more frequently despite being a similar distance from the router.

I have Hulu Live/Disney/ESPN Bundle, Netflix, and getting HBOMax free with my internet provider. It’s 1/3 of what I was paying for just Xfinity TV.

Yeah. All the ISPs in my subdivision have 1 GB data caps. I'd have to get a business line...which I've been considering.

Youtubetv is the best. We just recently paused our subscription because there is literally nothing on there right now with sports being gone that we can’t watch on Pluto tv for free. Nickelodeon, forensic files, etc for background noise when we arent watching Netflix

I have no real advise other than I'd go ahead and spend a little more for a highly rated router by Consumer Reports or some other independent site. The cost of the router is nothing in the scheme of things.

I had some roku and they sucked so much I replaced them with Apple TV’s.

I use YouTubeTV and love it, although its a distant 3rd in the rotation to Netflix and Prime TV.

Depending on the size / layout of your house and the location of your router, I’d consider getting a Google Mesh or similar system to make sure you can get a consistently strong signal in multiple areas. This was needed at my house, as my ISP dropped my fiber line in a guest bedroom near the garage in a spot that could not have been further from my living room TV and still be in a heated / cooled space. Definitely don’t regret getting the Mesh though....it’s nice to have good WiFi all over the house as our cell service kinda sucks where I’m at.

Agree on getting a mesh system. I used to constantly have wifi issues but since I got google wifi I have had zero problems and haven't even messed with it in the 2 years Ive had it. It was expensive up front but without it I could only reliably stream in one room of my house.

I have a question that was brought up yesterday.....

My wife's cousin cut the cord last week.....said all they watch is Netflix....they do want the local stations...i guess unless you have a streaming service, you have to get the local channels via digital antenna?

Or is there an app for local stations you can find?

They can use an antenna and the picture quality will be better than cable or the sat.

I have not tried this as I have YTTV plus an antenna, but lowcast.org provides local tv via streaming.

The roku tv has worked find other than the hulu app. We regularly use netlfix, espn, vudu, disney, youtube, etc with no problem.

Although... knock on wood... I haven't noticed it happening the last couple of weeks. Maybe hulu finally updated the app. I just know it was a daily problem back in march / april.

Exactly. YouTubeTV is the absolute best thing going.
When I was set to give it a try, we kept DirecTV for 3 weeks while we gave it its initial go. This was 3 weeks starting last football season. I wanted to know if I could see everything I wanted to watch. The challenge was to not even plug directv back into the receptacle, unless we absolutely had to. 3 weeks went by, and not only did we not have to plug it back in, I was amazed at how easy it was to go from Computer to TV to Cell Phone back to computer and never miss a beat watching whatever I wanted to watch. Since then, my mom and my mother in law have both made the switch. They never missed a beat either.
And there is no way anyone would have a problem with a flat 50 dollar bill every month. None of this 75 dollar this month 160 dollars next month crap Directv pulls.

I know nothing about the tech routes and giga-stuff. I do know I cut the cord last year. I have C-spire and subscribe to YouTube TV. Very happy. Save about $100 a month getting rid of dish.

Only downside is you gotta learn how to drive again (the remote). Small learning curve though.

I've got 40mbps with 3 people streaming on 3 tv's sometimes with cell phones/tablets going and my 40mbps works fine too. 1000 should be much more than fine.

Yeah, I've got a Roku Express and an old Roku CD and yes, they suck chicken balls. But, I bought a newer Roku Ultra and it smokes everything else I've ever had which was a Chromecast and an older Apple TV.
