I dont know why we'd expect a brand new team, thats played 1 game, to automatically beat a top25 team that's en route to a 30 win season.

There's issues to work on, sure. I dont want to see the freshman in these games above the transfers. But this was a total landmine of a game, especially with covid derailing a young teams development.

Why aren't people getting this?

I am frustrated about several things in how the program is ran....but does anybody else honestly think there is another better option out there??? Because looking at the college basketball landscape I don’t think we can do any better then Cal. I’ve extensively looked around and considered all the options and for his faults Cal is still BY FAR the best option at this time.

Big Difference between being upset and disappointed in a loss like this and what some are doing. I’m pissed but still optimistic.

What 4 whole years since a final four? I mean I want Uk to go every year but jeez man it’s almost impossible to claim that Cal hasn’t put us at least in competition for a final four every season save for maybe one? Doesn’t mean we get there but in position with the right bounces.

I’m not a “Cal apologist” he drives me nuts sometimes but I’m not quite ready to ditch the guy yet as many here seem to be. Guess that means I’m also a “pumper”. Oh well.

I'm critical of some of what Cal does offensively and think that he is in real danger of the game passing him up in a few years if he doesn't adjust, but yeah it's hard to ask for much more. We're in a position to contend practically every year and win 80 percent of our games. In a format that requires six single-elimination wins, it's hard to ask for much more than that. If your bar is set at championship or bust every year, there isn't a coach alive that would meet those expectations.

Lol said who? We have pumpers and we have detractors.

Not having Keion and playing an experienced and March-bound Richmond, when all our exhibitions and lead up games got nuked.. was a recipe for disaster. And yes, that means a LOT to a brand new team. Richmond doesn't need lead up games. We do.

I'll say this, I expected better from you. Not from JFCats and Zatovene and the rest of those nut sacks. This was a problem game, we all knew it. It shouldn't surprise you.

And yes, we'll be fine come March. Were spoiled by 4 Final4s in 6 years.. that is NOT the norm!

You’re putting a lot on it. Richmond is a nice mid major team. They are not about to have a 30 win season. They’re probably not making it out of the 1st weekend of the tournament.

The issues that were there today are the same issues that have crept up the last few seasons. Absolutely zero shooting, disjointed offense, etc. Sure some of these will be “fixed” to some degree. But by the time these guys are finally starting to figure it you’re down to a 1 game season. Then they’re gone and the process starts all over again with a new roster. Rinse and repeat.

That is what people are frustrated with. And i don’t see why people aren’t getting this.

Right now what UK has going in its favor is that Sarr is a talented enough player that he can cover up some of the developmental issues on some nights.

Did you not allude to someone calling us a Superteam? Thats why I quoted you.

Idk why people thought we were a super team... that can't exist in my eyes with a team that's 100%.. not exaggerating.. 100% new players.

I do get that. That by the time were figuring out, they're gone. Agreed, it can be annoying.

So what? What can we do? Do we want to have a flash in the pan type coach? How's Jay Wright doing so far this year?

And as far as I can tell.. Calipari is going for the multi year players.. fans didn't want the top15 (lmfao that I even had to type this) so he went for the top50 to top25. He's attempting to build a multi year team.

But to do so.. its gonna take time.

People do get it. The question should be, why are people accepting it? The issue isn't not knowing what issues lead to things like today. The issue is we've been in damage control in the media for weeks around here because we all knew a loss was possible today. Well...why is that? It's because we have a roster constructed the way it's constructed. Thats why they've been tempering fans anger in the media for weeks leading to this game. So again, it's why are people accepting it? In what world should I be happy or OK that we've known we could lose to Richmond. Richmond. 2020 clown world I guess? Just because we preemptively understand why we might lose a game doesn't make the loss OK. It's just excusing not having a program prepared to WIN THE GAME. Which is what we are here for.

I'm sure they exist. But they are far from the norm. I protect Kentucky's name like no other.. but I never thought this was some automatic 1-seed.

And why are you celebrating that they're wrong?

Covid has ****** this team like no other. We are going in totally blind. What can you do? What do YOU suggest we do?

It's because this is the style we play.. we get new players and its a process and I think some of you forget that last year was cancelled.. so in your eyes it's "Cal didnt even get a round of 32".

I dont know what coach could have prepared this team of 100% brand new players to beat an experienced and well-oiled Richmond team.

Forget the name.. some of you are hung up on a name that you don't know. This is gonna be a top25 top35 team all season.

We're not built for November, we're built for March. And I'm extremely thankful Calipari is our coach and not a lot of these posters.

I’m not celebrating it. I’m tired of being called an ******* in September and October when I say “I think this team is going to struggle pretty bad early” and “we really have no idea what a brand new team full of guys that have never played together is going to mesh” ... so yeah, I’m probably a little sensitive to it. I get called an ******* and a negative fan for calling this before it happens. Then it happens. I guess if I wasn’t petty I’d just sit back and not say anything. Alas, I am petty.

Clarke, Boston and Askew played together for 4 months before coming to UK. So, why did they look so out of sync today?

Covid has given this team 1 more month to work together. With nothing else to do, not even go to class, these kids should be WAAAAYYY further ahead than Cal's young teams of the past.

We had ZERO assists in the 2nd half!!!
We has ZERO 3 pt'ers for the ENTIRE game(0-10)!!!
We had 21 Turnovers!!!
We missed 13 FT's!!!

It's the same script the last 5 years with Cal. They don't share the ball, can't make open shots, reckless with the ball and miss too many FT's(except for last season).

He's paid $10 million/year to keep UK on top of the college basketball world( GOLD STANDARD as Cal himself stated). Losing to Mid-majors in Rupp for the SAME reason the last 2 seasons ain't it!!!

100% unequivocally not true. that's you projecting how you interpret critical posters. I'm sure some jackass somewhere would say that, but I haven't.

I dont know what coach could have prepared this team of 100% brand new players to beat an experienced and well-oiled Richmond team.
Well, that's all well and fine....the team is set up that way because of how the coach has set things up. That doesn't mean it's a built in excuse for losing. We understand that it's why we lose. You don't get to use it as an excuse when you build the roster this way. You want to build it that way, fine, you'd better win. When you lose games to disciplined mid major senior teams simply because they can actually play the game at this level, you don't get to cry about being young.

Forget the name.. some of you are hung up on a name that you don't know. This is gonna be a top25 top35 team all season.
Perhaps they will be. It's not like we haven't lost to mid major teams that are solid before. Look no further than Cal's UMass. The difference is with posters like yourself is it seems like you guys just look at these losses on an individual basis and then always get exasperated when folks get up in arms about it. We get up in arms because it is an aggregate of many seasons of seeing the same thing. Not because it's some one off incident. You're right, this Richmond team, on it's own, very well could turn out to be an Elite 8 sleeper for all we know. But we also heard these same arguments last year after Evansville. Who's to say? The point is we always have one or two of these "WTF did I just watch" losses with Cal. This isn't about Richmond at all.

We're not built for November, we're built for March. And I'm extremely thankful Calipari is our coach and not a lot of these posters.
Kentucky is Kentucky because its built for the Blue White game all the way to March. We are just not going to agree on that mentality, ever. Not even slightly.

People are tired of the “we have 2 billion dollars payroll in the NBA” ****. All fans I talk to say the same. I’m talking UK fans for 25+ years. New guys don’t know what UK basketball tradition is and I’m not trying to knock anybody.
Yeah we want titles NBA stuff is cool but titles are what uk fans have wanted ever since rupp took the job

I’ve always been very Pro-Cal and called a sunshine pumper by many but the same issues have crept up the last few years since SGA and his bunch left. Lack of shooting and poor PG play. We can’t have the type of roster turnover we’ve had and reload with guys who aren’t top 15 pick caliber guys that leave after one season. No reason we should have lost most of the guys we did off last years squad. I can handle a rebuilding year if we keep some guys but not if they leave to be 2nd round picks.

I love how you say "play" like it means anything lol. Cool, our players had scrimmages and practices together. What a real stand in for actual games!

If you're that upset with Cal then go do something about it. Go talk to him, go see the AD, act on it. Have a game plan. Because its sooooo tiring hearing whining with no recourse.

To think that we're the only top10 to lose this week, lmfao. The best and worst fanbase of all time.

(I'll deal with the other posts later, I'm watching football, and Tyreek Hill win me a fantasy title)

it’s the same stuff every year
“cal blows”
“nba comes first”
“should I ask mark few out?”
“wish we had pearl”
“1 title!!!!”
“these players suck”
“when i was playing back in ‘38 we weren’t allowed to have hair like that!”
repeat when losses occur

Because people are getting it. The problem is that we have designed rosters that are inherently young and flawed. I don't question why a senior dominated team would take a part a freshmen dominated one. I question why we are choosing to always have freshmen dominated teams in the first place. Yes it was a landmine of a game but we were the ones that planted that landmine in the first place.
