Majority of fans on here are robots and the ones who come in with negativity after kentucky loses. I think this is more of a bash kentucky forum than pro kentucky forum.
Its not just this loss. This loss without the existence of the last few seasons wouldn’t be so bad.
But, you have Cal losing in the first round for the first time in 14 tournaments that followed Cal posting a losing record for the first time since he took over umass 30+ years ago, on top of Cal dropping a home game to a mid major for first time during his time at UK.
The first round loss is not a trend. But the string of negative firsts IS a trend.
The streak of first round victories was impressive though. I posted his history as a 2 seed right before the tournament and i was confident this team wasn’t losing before the S16 even WITH them struggling down the stretch. And if you had told me we were playing unc in the E8 i would have guaranteed a final four.
Calipari just isn’t the same coach he was when he took over UK. Things we could once be confident would never happen under his watch have started happening. To me that is a pretty strong indicator his time at the top is over and he’s in that stage of his career when it’s just going to slowly get worse.

even though I started this thread I agree with you, I'm disappointed by our recent season finishes as well and cal needs to do better
And you know, i’d love to be wrong. And for it to turn out to just be a blip in his career. Between his last 4 years at Memphis and his first 6 at UK he was pretty dang good.
In that 10 years stretch he went, 327-52(that is a preposterous 86% winning percentage), 35-8 in the tournament with 5 final fours, 3 title game appearances, 1 title, and 8 out of 10 E8’s. He was unquestionably the top coach in the country during that 10 year stretch. Even with donovan and coach K having 2 titles a piece during that time.
That’s a long time for someone to be that good that consistently. But college basketball is constantly changing and Cal has struggled to adapt with it this time.
Now if the stat were 14 consecutive years, that would be much more impressive. But it's not, because we lost in the 1st round of the NIT in 2013 and didn't make any postseason tournament in 2021.
Yeah there are some miserable bastards on here, but there’s also some reasonable frustration. In the last 7 seasons, we’ve experienced:
- Worst loss of my lifetime- Wisconsin 2015
- Worst season of my lifetime- 2021
- Most embarrassing loss of my lifetime- 2022
^ I’m 42 and memory goes back to ‘86. The only argument for the above would be the 1989 season as worse than last year.
That’s a helluva lot to stomach for a passionate fanbase.
Kyle Tucker the brown nose, desperately trying to maintain the crumbs of inside info he’s given by sucking up.
The guy he just used as an example to defend Cal’s excellent ability to make the sweet 16, that guy just led his team to pass UK in all time wins and is on the verge of winning a second title.
Pretending there is no trend doesn't make the trend go away.
For what it's worth, Tubby in 10 seasons at UK never lost in the 1st round. Not one time. Never missed a tournament. I say that because Tubby's results were not good enough. Now we're moving goalposts to act like Cal hasn't been below standards.
Tucker working hard for Cal. Most nauseating "journalist" there is coveting UK.
One more point I'll make while I'm here lol ... for the longest time we could all say Calipari was performing at a MUCH higher level than Bill Self. Kansas was not performing at the same level as Kentucky. Now it's shifting from "Cal is clearly better than Self" to "Cal is no worse than Self." Take that for whatever you want.
I never really held 2013 against cal. It helped that we had just a title. Not having a good back up plan for Teague leaving was on cal. Nerlens injury was not.
I mean that's nuance we can get into I guess, coming off a national title I was not angry about it either. Especially considering we followed it up with a couple more Final Fours. My point was simply that it looks like Tucker just isn't counting that year. Whether we "hold it against Cal" or not, it still counts.
Triple CCC is trending the wrong way. Even blind mice can see that. I don’t need stats to tell me the program and the Coach are in a bad situation and more then likely only going to get worse
Worst loss was in the final four. None are good.
Wosrt season was a COVID year.
Most embarrassing was to a final eight team. Hardly an embarrassment.

He has failed to win a single NCAA tournament game in 10 of those seasons out of 29. The NCAA banned 2 more of those tournament runs that he had in 1996 and 2008. So in the NCAA record books Calipari has failed to win a single NCAA tournament game in the 12 of the 29 college seasons he has been a college coach.

Starting years? According to the NCAA record book it was his last year at UMass and Memphis that he doesn’t have a NCAA tournament win. Putting those 2 seasons aside, it still wasn’t all in his starting years. He missed the NCAA tournament his fifth season at Memphis after being the previous 2 years. He missed the tournament in 2013 and 2021 and failed to win in this 2022 tournament. That’s hardly his starting years.

Cal has missed the toruney TWICE (one was forgivable given the situation)- Stirke One
Missing the toruney at UK is unacceptable, minus an injury (like Noel)
Cal lost in the first round, Strike two.
Cal lost that 2015 game by stall ball (and of cour getting Higginsed). Strike 2.5.

It happens to Kansas. Not us. Self would’ve been fired at UK a looooong time ago.
Again, it’s a pointless stat. Maybe he did a huge job just getting some of those teams to the tournament. The vacuous stats mean nothing out of context the mean nothing to the people making decisions.
You’ve been unbelievably spoiled in your lifetime. Not a criticism of you personally. But folks your age seem to have much higher expectations and get much more crushed when UK fails to meet them.
I’m 64 years old, which means I was born in 1958. UK went to one Final Four between then and the year I enrolled at UK, 1974. I saw the greatest player in UK history never play in a Final Four. I saw Bobby Knight and IU become the glamour program. Even Tennessee had the upper hand for a couple years when they had Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld.
UK of course won the championship in 1978, that was 20 years since its last one with only 2 Final Fours in that time. After that we watched IU win another title, Dean Smith finally break through, Georgetown become the hot program. UK seemed to be eclipsed for many more years, even with one Final Four in 1984.
This period included consecutive first game losses in 1981 and 1982 to Middle Tennessee and UAB. No they weren’t “15 seeds” because the tournament was only 48 teams. But they were huge upsets to minor conference teams. Very embarrassing. As bad as this loss to St. Peter’s. One of those teams included Sam Bowie. And just 2 years later UK with the same coach was back in the Final Four.
I lived through “Kentucky’s Shame” in 1989. Moved to the west coast for those 2 years and since UK was banned from TV, I had no idea what was happening at all. For two years. Had to watch Duke and UConn become the hot programs.
But UK returned to prominence. It always does.
The great thing about the BBN has always been that we know our history. Well, our history includes some looooooooong stretches when UK didn’t win anything. It includes some massive upsets. It includes an Elite 8 loss by a team that included Kenny Walker to a team UK beat three times. It includes times when other programs had undefeated seasons, got the top recruits, and had coaches who were considered the best in the game.
Just offering a little perspective for y’all.
Tucker is all about staying in good graces with Cal. Has all the spine and backbone of a jelly fish.
Lots of fake UK fans here and some ungrateful one's that think they are owed something from the UK basketball program. Pretty sad.

I'm still waiting for his made up reports via Keion Brooks SR that "Keion Brooks Jr looks like a different player....." for the 3rd yr in a row. At some point-jus admit it's to appease a source and quit lying.
They're the best team remaining and their players are in gear.
They're my pick to win it all as of right now unless Duke is playing 8v5 against them in the title game.
I hate it, but I think Duke has to lose it. I think K goes out on top, and it makes me sick after all the glorifying!
I well remember the Kentucky Shame period. Still have the SI article for some strange reason. Had just ended a three year relationship with my girlfriend. Had moved to a new town and didn't know many folks. Made for some quiet nights without bball to watch.
Sure was good to have UK being televised again. Loved those early Pitino teams.
Those guys were proud to wear the UK jersey. It meant something to them. Wish we had players with their mindset and shooting ability.

Uk basketball has existed for over 100 years. Calipari has coached for 30. I get the disappointment and the frustration, but that you all have singled your entire life around 2 years is absurd...but there's also a trend of uk fans being forever miserable and that trend is real.
It’s really not just two years. If you go back to 2018…in our last 3 tournaments our region has absolutely collapsed in front of us. 2018 the highest seed we had to beat to get to a final four was 9th seeded Kansas State and a coach that hadn’t been past the first weekend in 13 years. We shot 37 free throws that game and couldn’t break 60.
In 2019 we had 5th seeded auburn minus one of their best players and again Cal gets a lead and tightens up.
Before then it used to always happen against good teams. 2008 Kansas 2010 WVU 2011 Uconn 2015 Wisconsin 2017 UNC but now he struggling to get over the hump against inferior competition as well. 2018 K State 2019 Auburn and 2022 St. peter’s. It’s getting worse and worse.
