This post is not to take away the importance of any life or life lost during the "covid 19" pandemic. I sympathize with any family who has lost a loved one however I also believe its important to report facts to the public.

In the month of July 2020 the Desoto County Coroners office completed reports and in the process of filing 144 deaths with the state of Mississippi. This is an average month in Desoto County

I normally dont publicly post specifics of the deaths each month out of respect for family privacy and Hippa laws however I see on a daily bases in the last few months many facebook google experts and politicians with politically driven agendas driven by money reporting information that is twisted and false to the public.

These are your Facts for Desoto County in the month of July2020.
deaths and cause of death

congestive heart failure, heart disease, lung diseases, vascular disease, stroke, or the combination of more that one of these. 67

cirrohsis of liver 1

Infection or sepsis from a source of infection
such as Pneumonia 18

accidental trauma who passed away inside of Desoto County before reaching a hospital 0

Renal disease 2

Drug overdose 1

Possible drug related deaths pending toxicology results from

Gastrointestinal complications (ex bowel obstruction, Gastrointestinal hemorrhage) 4

Alzheimers disease,Dementia,Parkinsons disease 16

Homicide 0

Total deaths investigated by Desoto County Coroners office in the month of July 2020= 144
These numbers include hospice deaths, hospital deaths, unexpected deaths in the home, and deaths of people who died before reaching a hospital to get medical care.

Deaths of people who had a + covid test result prior to or at the time of their death but does not necessarily mean covid was their primary cause of death 24 this number is included in the total number of deaths(144) above. All of the individuals who have died that were + for covid at some point have all had major medical problems prior to contracting covid. most of these deaths have been of people over the age of 75. Many of these covid deaths are of people who were on hospice care with a terminal diagnoses. some of these deaths the person was + for covid but had no symptoms of covid prior to death but died of other medical problems. The department of health demands that these deaths be called a covid death and reports them as only that without reporting that many of them were terminal prior to a +test.

In my opininon this has lead to unnecessary fear in the public and caused stress to the citizens in this county and across this country.
The one thing that is drastically up is cardio/pulmonary deaths. I attribute this to 2 things: 1. stress of the covid 19 pandemic. stress causes high blood pressure and high blood pressure with heart disease or vascular disease cause heart attacks and strokes.
2. people see the false information politicians report to the world on the internet. They see what the news reporter who has no knowledge of what he is reporting broadcast to the world. They become scared to leave home and go to the hospitals for fear of a virus when they need medical care for a more serious condition and ultimately have a cardiac arrest at home.

Although anytime life is lost I consider it a tragedy and sympathize with that family. I however believe that public fear and the government reporting only partial information is misleading and should not be. Covid is real and we should protect the elderly who are frail however life for the average healthy majority must go on so that chaos in our community and across the country does not escalate and ultimately cause more deaths than any virus ever would.
thank you for your time

This confirms what I read a couple of months ago in The Telegraph. A researcher in England looked at a bunch of the deaths they had and concluded that somewhere between 1/3 and 2/3 of those deaths were people unlikely to live the year anyway.

And we killed over 1/4 of a million people by tanking out economy. Yes, for every one percent unemployment rises, 40,000 people die. It's time for this whole damn country to put on a mask and get back to work and school. It's a thing and we just need to accept that and keep living our lives.

Your rational post is going to piss off several irrationals on here.

OK. Open it up and we will. But from what I see, all the experts want us to wear masks AND keep us closed.

People clamoring for shutdowns due to health concerns conveniently ignore the negative health (both physical and mental) impact that these shutdowns cause. Particularly with young people.

It is all about comparing the cost of shutting down vs the cost of getting back to normal (while wearing masks and taking other reasonable safety precautions). Yeah, a shutdown would keep a good many folks from getting the virus. But the health and economic costs of continuing this is far greater than what the actual virus can inflict.

Doubt it. Josh is an incredible person and he doesn’t have an agenda. I think he just wanted to lay some things out.

Is he a doctor/medical examiner? From what I can tell what he says makes sense, but just wondering what qualifications are required to be a coroner in DeSota County.

Hopefully, this news will lead to the older men on here being allowed to finally check their mailbox outside of their house.

its actually HIPAA not HIPPA. i would expect a county coroner to know that, but anyway...

The Coronabros on here are on their way to set us all straight within the next 5 minutes. No rational discussions are allowed when it comes to Covid, don’t you know that by now?

I think the qualifications for coroner are as strong as the qualifications for justice court judge.

I'm one of the older ones here(66). Just got through playing golf with 14 guys in our morning group(not all together of course). And I still go to my condo in Orange Beach every few weeks. So not letting the virus alter my activities that much. I do wear a mask when going into any business. If 80 years old I might be hesitant to get out of the house that much.

From what I can tell from the MDSH data, they list only 11 covid deaths on July.

I am 80 and survived prostate cancer in 2006...and a heart attack in 2013. Folks like me need to keep ourselves away from the general public as much as possible. We get groceries through Kroger online....we order other needs online as well....have had one hair cut since Feb.

This thing requires some common sense but the media and political 'hype' is unreal....it is being 'hyped' for sensationalism.

And, I greatly resent anyone in this thread who is criticizing our coroner, Jeff. He is very capable...honest to the bone...been trained very well by his dad and anyone's disrespect toward him is obscene..... try doing his job....and no, I am not him, LOL...nor related to him in any way. Snarky remarks say more about the speaker than the one spoken about!

What qualifications do you need to post facts? The bold statement above is something he would have knowledge of in his line of work as well as cause of death. There’s no doubt people have died due to COVID alone but if numbers are being skewed like it’s stated above then do we have people freaking out as much? That’s a huge problem if people are dying from something else but it’s being listed as a COVID death because they tested positive previously. Especially knowing that these test are not even close to being accurate.

He was an RN at Baptist Desoto before he was the county coroner so it’s not just some Bubba running for office. His dad was the coroner for years and died unexpectedly a couple of years ago and Josh finished his term and then ran for the position.

I appreciate the coroner sharing this information from one county in the state for the month of July - but I'm more concerned about hospitals in our state being overrun in August.

The death numbers don't bother me. But when people I know working at hospitals tell me it's getting bad and they are over capacity - that's what tells me this is getting out of control.

Are you exercising for two hours or are you like the old guys at my wife’s gym that are just there to drink coffee and stare at yoga pants for two hours? I’m not being critical, both activities get the heart rate up. Personally, I’m looking for to reaching that workout routine.

I’ve been lifting for almost 9 years, took 40 pounds off. Do upper, lower back, arms, chest twice a week, legs shoulders once a week. Do some cardio but not big into that and do abs. Do drink coffee but definitely look at yoga pants (not all of them)🙄

And it’s a shame some yoga pants are made in certain sizes. Trying to ruin a good thing.

You edited out the part where you said you called and the story is not true. So did you not call the right person or is the story true?

1853 staffed beds available and 145 ICU beds available statewide. That's out of 899 total ICU beds in the state. The Jackson area ICUs are prettymuch full though.

0 available at Baptist. 20 of 46 in ICU are COVID
0 available at Merit. 8 of 28 COVID
0 available at UMC. 20 of 80 COVID
2 available at St D. 27 of 64 COVID
0 available at River Oaks. 5 of 10 COVID

We are on the downhill side of this thing now though.

I have had to call more husbands, wives, and children of patients dying of this disease than I like to think about. Lots of them were older. Some were not. Many of them had pre-existing conditions. Some did not. Some had what I would consider to be terminal conditions prior to contracting COVID. Most did not (outside of being elderly, I guess). The one thing they all had is people who loved them. Most of them were not ready to die and had likely years ahead of them. This disease has stolen years from people and the ones they love. I wish it was being overblown, but it really is not. I get I am closer to this than most on this board. Maybe that makes me biased. If I am off base then I apologize, but this disease is by far the worst thing I have ever dealt with in my career.

Everyone please be careful out there and realize that no matter what we really are on the same side.

I've mentioned before that I've only known one person who has/had Covid, and he died after 6 or 7 days on a ventilator. He was 72 and had other health issues (primarily severe spinal disc problems, and several unsuccessful surgeries), but I'm not sure if they were things that would exacerbate the effects of Covid.

His wife at first tested negative, but a few days later tested positive (so I suppose I actually know 2 people who have had it) but she's totally asymptomatic and doing well about 3 weeks after he died. She's a bit younger, probably in mid-60s, and is very physically active. Staying in good shape probably helps minimize bad effects of the virus.
