Ran into Coach Moorehead in the Portland Airport last week. He is much more charasmatic than I expected. I am also very surprised about how despondent he is about losing the job.

Really? So his head wasn't in the sand like usual?

Did he give 3 keys he's going to focus on for his new job?

Can you expound on this a little? Just curious as to what he said or did that would lead you to say this.

And why are you surprised by it? The guy nabbed a head coaching job in the SEC and completely blew it....I'd be a little down in the dumps too.

I hate to hear of his despondency....

But the correct decision was made. He had his opportunity and unfortunately did not measure up.

Maybe its just a semantic thing but kind of intrigued as to how someone can project charisma and despondency at the same time.

Wait, he was charismatic yet despondent about leaving Starkville?

Haha, yeah good point.
He was super friendly and engaging until I brought up State at which point he became despondent. He didn't mention any sand pounding or rock kicking but he did mention Murphys Law.
The bottom line is that he is much more likeable than I expected.

I thought he was a generally likable guy and I hoped he would be successful. He got a little feisty after some losses when he was questioned about the program. But I genuinely wanted to see him do great things at MSU. He did have a few bad things to happen that weren't necessarily his fault. But I think there were also some decisions (or lack of decisions) that were on him and expedited his departure.

Hope he finds future success.

When he realized I was a State fan, he just kinda took about 5 seconds kinda shaking his head a little and looked down. I got the feeling from his body language that he was more emotionally invested in our school than I expected. Something above and beyond just the money.
Hell, I had been on the plane for about 7 hours (from Boston) and I was a little star struck when I saw him so my judgment may have been impaired.

Well, if he had actually coached instead of complained things may have turned out different. The program nosedived under him the minute he walked through the door.

He's a great guy. Very likable and personable every time I spoke with him. Outside of his head coaching ability, I've got nothing but positive things to say about Joe.

Pure speculation and assumption from a clouded mind based primarily on non verbal cues but also including tonal variations.
