Coach Cal just respected my decision that I wanted to sit out for the semester and just get better,” Diallo said. “He respected that and told me whenever I feel like I’m ready, and if I wanted to play I could just come and talk to him about it. For right now, we’re just sticking to the plan of me sitting for the semester and getting better on the court and competing with these guys in practice.”

Are we for sure he is staying? Does he have any former coaches or family that will try to push him to go pro.

And that possibly could happen but I think the idea for Diallo is the draft is weaker next year and would be a lottery pick if he returns. By listening to the interview, it sure sounded like he would return but with these kids you never know and because you dont know who is in their ear at the time.

He will at least test the draft. Some fans that care more for having him then him reaching his dream better hope he doesn't shoot well in workouts since he athletic attributes are very high

I'm ok if he declares. It's hard to miss someone you never had. If he plays next year, I'll be the first to laugh in peoples faces,.Either way, I'm glad UK helped the young man.

I wouldn't bet on it but agree that waiting for a weaker '18 draft makes sense.

I don't see how that statement by Diallo says anything about how he's not planning to return next year.

He could be the star of the team in a weaker draft, and be ahead of the Freshman curve given his experience right now.

If anything, hopefully this just shuts up the people who want him to suit up every game.

I'm having a hard time understanding how that quote points to him leaving after this season??

Because looked at one way, it might seem like he wants all the positives of being at Kentucky (exposure, practice) with none of the risks (not ready for the next level, injury).

Doesn't mean anything yet, we'll have to wait and see.

The last impression of Diallo ON the court was not that good. He's not helping his draft stock by not playing at all for what would be November to July.

That's ridiculous. UK fans have dealt with a revolving door so these guys could leave without being held back for 8 years. We're more understanding than any fan base in the nation of "their dreams".

No way we should be happy a guy comes here, pretends to want to play, uses the UK name for the draft and bolts without contributing even a few minutes. That won't be accepted and shouldn't be.

How do you know Cal wasn't just using the open scholarship to help the kid out? Or help someone else out? It could keep us in good graces with other recruiting connections.

No rules broken. Not depriving anyone of any opportunity. He's not effecting anything other than providing better competition in practice if he doesn't play a minute. It will be accepted by anyone who is relevant to the decision.

And what team is going to say, Oh he went to Kentucky, let's draft him.

No mention of not coming back, but no mention of actually coming back either. Is there any quotes out there that state anything about him looking forward to playing with his team this year or the next? Working to improve in order to get up to speed to help his team? I haven't seen any.

Is he currently on scholarship?

He's no where to be found in the mock drafts which I know is subject to change. But 2 things stand out to me.

1. He wouldn't come here just to practice with this team. If he was seriously considering going pro after this semsester he would of went to uconn played right away then entered the draft.

2 If he was considering the draft, he would of Been overseas getting prepared for the NBA draft and getting paid to do so. Not playing pick up ball at uk. I think he wants to be part of next yrs team with green an hopefully bamba.

Lastly, if you haven't noticed, cal is not recruiting any sg for next yr as I think he knows he already has his guy for next yr

I think this is harder to answer than not.

Are they just going to take him because he sat the bench at UK? Probably not. The higher the pick the higher the cash, and the "Kentucky effect" is easily tool that recruits will use to gain some sort of advantage, whether that means the ability to go one spot higher or 5, don't know. But it's real and unless cal has a reason besides "his choice", it won't be accepted by 90% of UK fans and rightlfully so imo.

Yep which is why I think it's a moot point and he'll
Be ready to go.

Well, I did say RELEVANT to the decision. Maybe 90% of the CLOD will cry, to no avail. I doubt the majority of the actual fan base actually gives a damn. You are sadly mistaken if you think this board even remotely reflects the fan base as a whole.

No I actually think non message board and non social media UK fans are usually older and would hate a player doing that.

Nothing to see here except cal letting the players make the decisions to play or not. That and once again putting the needs of individuals over needs of the program.
