I think this conversation is relevant to the Rock/Smith situation. The key differences are the initial offense and the response. The conversation is referencing a joke that Tracy Morgan said on stage and had to apologize for. I don't know the exact joke, but if it was a joke in a comedy club that included a gay slur my guess is it was more offensive than a bald joke/GI Jane reference at an awards show. No one slapped Tracy. But the response led to this conversation. Now, a comedian makes a more innocuous joke, gets slapped on stage, and apparently we are split on whether or not that was OK.
This is why the "insult someone's wife, **** happens" take is so bad. It totally misses the point.
